  1. He's still the only guy but he might bring 2. Just so you know.
  2. I was thinking the something but probably switching to smaller type tube than I usually use. Thanks.
  3. Not sure on the attendance. I'm hoping for a good turnout. I plan on sending out emails to all the NW guys on the meeting Saturday. I would think Jim S. and Josh K. would be interested in the big tie show also. Should also state that a couple of our featured tiers have offered to bring extra vises so people can participate. A BIG THANKS to you three (Jude, Mike, rich) for doing this. Come on NW Region guys, lets have a good turn out
  4. I have to admit that the success I have had on the float & fly is using a self tied hair jig with some added stank to it. Don't much care for the stank because it really does stank and it doesn't wash off all that easy. All smallies I've caught this year on the float & fly have been with stank. Scoreboard; Stank - 4 No Stank - 0
  5. Are you saying that Jude can't tie flies? "In the time of chimpanzees, I was a monkey."
  6. Those things are sick! Don't you have a restaurant or something to run? Very nice flies, Tom.
  7. I mean from Mike. I can't wait to read one from Mike in the Bronzeback Bulletin. That's where you get the true story. Bestest reporting this side of the Mississip.
  8. Call me dumb (my wife did today) but I have never heard of this term "brining a turkey" until today. Learn something new every day I guess. Great news and great work from all involved. Can't wait to read an article on it.
  9. It wasn't just a dunk. It was a dunk with a slight run. Therefore.... I conclude that it felt like a 23, maybe 24 inch smallmouth.
  10. Still trying to figure out this Float & Fly thing. Went out on 11/20 and was having absolutely no luck what so ever fishing the float and fly moving the float around from 15" to 36". Time was running out so I got a bit of an attitude and moved the float to about 48" and whipped that sucker out there. FLOAT DOWN!!! I wasn't ready (kind of surprised) bad hook set. It felt like a nice one if that means anything. Times up. Gotta head for work. I'm thinking maybe I haven't been setting depth correctly.
  11. WOW!! What a deal. Thanks rich. You heard him folks. Come one, come all to the NW Region Basic Fly Tie. It's gonna be a CRAZY good time. Let's get CRAZY!!!
  12. We'll hold our first winter meeting beginning at 1pm. in the Lodge Room of Gander Mountain, 3068 McFarland Road in Rockford, IL. We'll cover basic fly tying technique. Jude, Rich McElligott, and Mike G will be on hand tying flies and fielding questions.
  13. prac·tice: Noun: The actual application or use of an idea, belief, or method as opposed to theories about such application or use. Verb: Perform (an activity) or exercise (a skill) repeatedly or regularly in order to improve or maintain one's proficiency. Catch and Release - in the fishing world means to return a fish that has been reeled in back to the water. CPR (catch, picture, release) - in the fishing world means to return a fish that has been reeled in and then photographed back to the water. The term "Practice Catch & Release" is most often spoke in the noun sense. It's an idea. We like to focus more on the verb description of "practice" and sharpen our skills as best we can. CPR requires good Catch & Release skills along with camera technique to return the fish to water in a fast manner. I believe both of these practices (C&R, CPR) are an Art form. Not all of us are going to be at the same skill level of the Art but we learn and practice to sharpen our skills of the Practice as we go. I believe the wording should go.......Practicing the Art of Catch & Release or Practicing the Art of CPR.
  14. Photo could have stayed. Although laying a fish on the ground could cause it harm the fact is we all have probably done it at some point in our fishing lives. I have learned a lot and have changed a lot of my practices since joining the ISA. I believe that's kind of one of the ideas of the ISA. To educate. Live and learn. Nice catch.
  15. Mark, I'll ask TIM and find out and then I'll post my answer here.
  16. I do consider myself to be a bit of an idiot, so better safe than sorry. I only have one eye so my depth perception is a bit off and there have been times when I've done stuff (while out fishing) and thought to myself "Well that was stupid." Never know, I could break a leg or something.
  17. I think it's always a good idea to print out a map of the area and route that you will be floating and give copies to family or friends so people have an idea of where you are at, just incase.
