  1. A friend is selling his riverfront property in Oglesby. It is 23 acres with 1/4 mile of frontage on the Vermilion river across from Matthiessen State Park. The home is 850 square ft. with two bedrooms and one bath overlooking the river. The river features good fishing for white bass, catfish, and smallmouth bass, with many other species present also. Contact Bob Huber at Coldwell Banker, Phone 815-780-8702. The property is owned by James and Carol Krancic of Vermilion River Photography. I hate to see it sold, but who would appreciate it more than a fisherman? Lots of wildlife and scenery. This is a nice section of river for flyfishing. More info can be seen at coldwellbankertoday.com.
  2. Excellent Rob! Very nice fishing. Funny how I was thinking wildebeest, scroll down, and Jude is right on it.
  3. I pretty much use them the same as Rob does. Sometimes with a hellgrammite pattern.
  4. Sorry to hear that Rob. We as humans are seeing that it is a difficult thing to fix what we have tampered with. But if not for tampering, we would not have the luxuries we have today.
  5. As far as I know, the high dam at Streator has stopped the movement of Asian carp to the upper reaches of the Vermilion. The lowhead dam in Oglesby, as well as the wildcats, have maybe limited migration to a point but have not stopped the flow of carp upstream. I would say that bass numbers are down, in the lower stretch of river, compared to what they were before the arrival of the Asian carp.
  6. I believe it was Big Bureau Creek that had a nasty fish kill a few years back from a hog farm in the Princeton area. You may want to check into that one too.
  7. Mark , sorry to hear about the heart problems. Hope you heal up quickly. The Big Sandy is a beautiful stream. I would hate to see it have the problems a giant hog farm could bring. I have seen what can happen when that mess seeps into a stream. Keep us posted.
  8. They did do some work on this in conjunction with a mine reclamation project a couple years back. No grant money was available at the time to complete the project.
  9. Oglesby just received a $152,000 IDNR grant to build a small parking lot and a canoe landing under the Ed Hand Bridge. No date has been set for completion of the project.
  10. Nice Rob! The couple I have are as Steve described. I'm not sure what else you could do to improve the action. I agree with your take on Larry. He is well worth hearing.
  11. Great looking flies Tom. I have some shanks sitting around too. I just need some time to sit and give it a try.
  12. I do not tie nearly as much as the others, but for what it is worth, my bass flies are tied mainly on the Mustad 3366 or the C52 Stinger deer hair hooks. The Gammy B10-S is a great hook that I have used, though it is expensive. A friend I tie for on occasion would like all his bass flies tied on the B10-S. I like the Dai Riki hooks too.
  13. A very nice collection of topwaters guys. Well done.
  14. I think there is potential here. How does it hang in the water? More vertical than a regular Crease fly?
  15. I would say this is a fair estimate. A very nice fish.
