  1. Creative tie! Don't know why it wouldn't work. Is that your own design?
  2. Kirkland is as far upstream as I've gone. For some reason, the Kirkland area was lousy last year. Previous years it's been pretty good.
  3. If we're going to scout the river for you, the least you can do is let us know how you did.
  4. How did the pirate respond when asked why he had a steering wheel stuffed down his pants? Arrrrr…drives me nuts.
  5. "Hotspots"? Terry?!? That's a good one.
  6. Ice is pretty much gone. If there's any left, 70 will take care of it tomorrow.
  7. Your supposed to use uncooked rice. Not leftover fried rice from Tom's place.
  8. I've always wanted to explore the rivers in that area. If you have enough time, I'd do some research and head out without a guide. (I think the internet has almost made guides obsolete.) I think the real good stuff will take more than just a couple hours to get to and fish. http://www.austinflyfishers.com http://hillcountryflyfishing.com http://www.flyfishingconnection.com/articles/current/17/Exploring+the+Fly+Fishing+Waters+of+Austin,+Texas+and+the+Texas+Hill+Country/
  9. Don't be silly, Norm. Jim catches big fish. Ha.
  10. Thanks, Joe. I might have to give it a whirl pretty soon.
  11. Joe…What more can you tell me about winter pike fishing? Are they just as aggressive as in summer? Are they down deep? (Can I use a Chug Bug!?) It seems that the slower spots that I consider pikey are the first spots to freeze.
  12. It was the least he could do, considering he's the one who ditched Ed on a strange river.
  13. Good question, Terry. I could have stayed in and watched some thrilling (insert televised sport here), or Everybody Love Raymond re-runs. Maybe get caught up on my You-tube viewing. Instead, I opted for the peace, quiet, beauty and solitude of a winter float. I don't know what I was thinking! Or are you asking why I called my wife for a ride? 'Cause I doubt you'd come fetch me if I called you, that's why. No top water action, Rich. Didn't even take my gear.
  14. I actually floated on Saturday. Put in at home, just downstream of Baumann Park. It was fine until I git to the big slow bend near Mulford Road. At that point it was not floatable. I thought about trying to bust through, but my sensible side won out. I paddled upstream to the best available spot to pull out and had to drag up a pretty steep hill. Luckily, the paved path is at the top of the hill, so I just had to strap on my wheels and stroll to the park and call my wife for a ride.

    feelfree fishing

My feeble old mind forgets lots of things, Jim. It sure would beat the heck out of strapping my wheels on and then having to carry them on the yak.

    feelfree fishing

It seems like the one wheel would be tough to balance on when pulling a loaded yak on uneven ground. Was that an issue, Ben? That does look like a sweet boat. The seat looks as comfy as my recliner.
  17. Hey Joe…want me to check the Kish tomorrow and see if it's floatable?
  18. The Kish was pretty much ice-free this morning. On weekends I usually get my coffee at the Shell Station in downtown CV, then enjoy it while standing on the RR bridge watching the river flow underneath me. I thought there would be more ice than there is. I was sure that a particular big eddy would have ice, but it didn't. Not even around the edges of a partially sunk log.
  19. Good job, Joe. I'll be taking a look at the river when I get my coffee in the morning. I'll give you an update regarding ice. I'm pretty sure it will be floatable.
  20. I wish I knew what I did to deserve the abuse you heap on me.
  21. I don't think so Bart…you're thinking of a trip on the Main/North Branch. We met two younger guys on the island, and one of them joined after I regaled them with Chug Bug stories. I'm pretty sure I met Joe on the south branch during a solo trip. Spreading the ISA gospel. Say Hallelujah! (Or however it's spelled)
  22. Must not have been me, Joe. I would never fish Terry's flow, and I would never go on and on and on and on about the virtues of the Chug Bug. (Glad to see you found the ISA!) Thanks for that tidbit, Ron. I didn't know that.
  23. Mid-November had record lows. You'll have to refresh my memory regarding the SB. Where and when? I hope I wasn't rude.
