  1. Lets see this pic! I love tinkering. My friend got some of that epoxy that dries quickly under uv light and we had some fun creating different shaped heads, can't wait to see the action they give.
  2. So pumped for this float, lots of firsts for me. 1. Nucanoe on the river 2. Fly fishing the Kish 3. Hopefully landing my first smallmouth or pike on the fly. I feel like a kid again! which reminds me, I have my second boyo due in two weeks so lets hope I don't get THE CALL and have to book it home. Whats everyone floating and throwing? I'll probably be mixing up spinning and fly gear.
  3. My 2 cents, your best bet is saving some cash and getting an entry level pair that had a rock solid warranty behind them, I've had Cabelas bluestreams which are now discontinued last me 5 years without a leak and they cost less than a hundo at the time. I just probably jinxed them. Kevin's spot on about size, make sure you give yourself a little room to move and layer, that way you won't be stressing out the seams.
  4. I appreciate all the feedback guys, very excited to do some more work this year and that will absolutely include the all mighty smallmouth. I also don't see myself putting down the spin gear just yet as I have so much to learn casting wise, I don't know how I'll ever replicate skipping sluggos up against banks with low hanging trees and branches, that technique is responsible for some of my largest fish. My bank account is already feeling it after putting together another outfit, a 7ft fiberglass 4/5w with an oldschool cortland click-pawl reel and some 4w rio line for driftless trout season. It's all new and exciting. Good news Terry, I'm ready to float again. Two weeks ago I picked up a Demo model Nucanoe frontier 12 from Rocktown Adventures. I have another little boyo due May 14th and my oldest isn't too far away from tagging along so it was time for an upgrade. I still hope the feelfree moken will find its way back someday and I'm forever thankful for your commitment to helping me track it down.
  5. Last year Tom Loo posted a video from Todd Moen called Fall Run. I consider that the last little push it took me to step out of my comfort zone and try fly fishing, so first off, thanks Tom. I've shared that video with a lot of people, it really echoes a lot of how I think about fishing in general, fly or not. Within a week of watching Fall Run, I found myself at Bass pro testing out rods, shopping on amazon, feverishly researching tactics and terminology, then finally gearing up and heading out for my first trip. I'm lucky to have some friends who are already experienced in most aspects of fly fishing and over our three outings I learned a lot. I was humbled and enjoyed every second of it. I also found myself behind my camera more, which brings me to this. The Remedy Fishing Channel is a new project of mine, I'll be working with Anthony at www.trouterspace.com amongst others to bring all sorts of content to the channel. I hope to do some stuff with the ISA as well. This video journal is focused on entertainment, no tips tricks or advice, just a visual medium to remember the fall run of 2014 by. I hope you all enjoy it and subscribe for future videos. I plan to elaborate more on the channel soon, good things to come!
  6. I never had too much of an issue, the front handle is molded in and wide so you can get a solid grip and more leverage. It's reassuring knowing that the keel won't wear out and you get much less resistance than sliding would.
  7. I bought the Moken by FeelFree a few years ago and loved it overall. My issues were that it was stable enough to stand on,but wasn't designed to do so. They addressed all of that and more with the Lure 11.5. I can't stress enough how helpful the molded in handles and wheel in the keel are for transportation. That seat looks plush as well. My issue now is I've got a 2 year old, and another on the way who will be wanting to get out with Daddy, I'm looking at the Nucanoe Frontiers for their versatility, I've seen my friend put his through the paces. Still, for a 1 person kayak, I bet the Lure is one of the most versatile and biggest bang for your buck kayaks out there. I really.. really... wish I had that chair on some of my overnight camping trips.
  8. Good thing I've always had an old Cortland fly reel, made in England from my gramps That can justify buying a few new outfits after this cutoff date right? Seems like a good time to share a little demo reel of some recent footage I took for my buddy. I put this together just to give him and idea of what my camera can do and test its limits myself. I plan on improving with every trip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6gjRMD1Bl0
  9. I'll put it on the calendar, looks like a great way to kick things off, thanks John.
  10. Loved every second of this, I think its actually the tipping point for me. I've been putting off fly fishing for a long time and honestly can't get it out of my head now. Just listed all my guitar gear on craigslist and plan on diving in headfirst! Steelhead, Smallies, Trout, here I come.
  11. Looks like a great time on the water, is that a feelfree lure 11.5 I see floating around?
  12. I'm out! I blame Terry for jinxing my "planning" to attend. Water levels look perfect, I'm sure you guys will have a good outing. I've got to entertain an old friend whose in town for the day.
  13. I'm planning on making this, I could use some schooling on this chug buggery as well.
  14. Call me crazy but I prefer 20-25lb braid, preferably power pro. Probably because I would destroy spool after spool picking out bird nests of mono and I like the way it lays on the reel better. Being able to pull out of snags is a bonus.
  15. This place is a gem, an expensive gem. * aaand the wife made plans with the in-laws, won't be able to make it after all.

    yaks

Those are some tanks. No love for the 10 footers which I think work really well in our smaller local rivers.
  17. Ben K.

    Hey!

That's too cool. When are we dragging it down the Kish?
  18. Ben K.

    Hey!

Those are some sweet yaks, love the colors.
  19. Good luck! I was thinking of doing a winter float just to scout some spots while the water is low and clear.
  20. Thanks for the info. I just picked 2 batteries, 2 memory cards, and a floaty for the case. I'm making some plans to try it out this weekend, can't wait.
  21. What's the point? Everyone knows you can't catch smallmouth on the Kishaukee during the winter
  22. Sounds like a great float, nothings better than having a river all to yourself... except catching a bunch of fish while doing so.
