  1. Please forgive my ignorance but if the line comes off the spool like a spinning reel, and they are difficult to cast, what is the big advantage that would make someone spend hundreds of dollars to use one? What do they do that you can't do with spinning reels?
  2. Gore-Tex is the way to go. Places like Cabela's, Bass Pro, or Gander often have rain suits on sale. You should be able to get jacket & bibs for less than $200. If you fish from a boat, rain pants will leave a gap between the jacket and waistband that will leave you exposed to the rain, bibs prevent this. Get a light weight set that has enough room for layers underneath so you can wear them in warm as well as cold weather.
  3. Separate boots are also a lot more comfortable to walk in. You can spend $300 or $400 for waders but the extra money doesn't make them bullet proof. Thorns, barbed wire, or sticks will poke holes in the expensive ones just as easy as the more affordable ones. Just make sure they fit well. If they are too tight you'll stretch them at the seams (especially in the crotch area) which will make them leak.
  4. They say you CAN put the new Gulp Alive back in the jar.
  5. Is that something anybody wants to see? It would be good to have some photos from the Blowout for the back cover. If someone who took some pics could sent them to me, that would be great!
  6. At least with this version you can put the bait back in the bucket and re-use it later. I haven't been a fan of Gulp products since the time we were running low on Senkos and tried some of the Gulp sinking minnows. The Senkos were getting hits on every cast. We watched fish swim up to the Gulp bait, then swim away. When we switched back to Senkos, it was back to a fish on every cast. I had my doubts about bait that actually repelled feeding fish.
  7. We're not looking for Earnest Hemingway. Good information like the kind Norm has, is the most important thing. It could be about a good vacation spot, a tackle review, or just some cool pictures. I'm actually looking for something for the cover right now. If you have got a good high resolution photo that you'd like to see on the cover of the Bronzeback Bulletin, send it to; isalliance@sbcglobal.net
  8. I've seen lots of those bugle mouth bass but I just can't get them to hit a Senko.
  9. Welcome Joe! Rich did mention to you that this is a SMALLMOUTH site didn't he?
  10. You could have gotten a brand new one for half price if you'd have made any bid on any of the 3 the discount certificates we had for vises at the Blowout. Ask John Loebach if he still has the certificates.
  11. I've seen Tim Holschlag's book, which is out of print, go for over $40 by itself. It's a good combination well worth bidding on.
  12. If you are looking to fish lakes in August, it's probably the toughest time of year. It's the warmest water of the year and the bass (and most other game fish) are usually out in deeper water where they can be harder to locate especially on lakes you are unfamiliar with. August is a good time for rivers though. Just find current, and the smallies will be close by. If lakes are what you have in mind, the month of June is prime time where ever smallies swim.
  13. Norm thought he might need a passport just to come to the Blowout!
  14. I hope the 12 pack makes to 3:00 when the doors open.
  15. Over the years I've used at least 4 different waterproof cases for my camera. I've got a hard case, and 3 different styles of soft cases. All of them kept the camera dry, but all of them were a pain to use while wading. Holding a bass in one hand while trying to open the water tight case and remove your camera with the other, always proved a challenge. My move to a waterproof camera was by far the best solution. I just purchased my second waterproof camera and am looking to sell my first one which still works well but does not have the features and resolution of the newer models. If you're looking for an easy to use waterproof camera, check out the For Sale forums here. I also have some waterproof cases I can part with.
  16. With a week to go we are nearing a sellout. There are still some tickets left. If you are planning to attend and have not yet bought a ticket, I urge you to do so now! We will be sold out, there will be no tickets available at the door. Do not wait any longer!
  17. It was too late for the last issue, but it will be in the next.
  18. The photos on the web page don't show them from the side but the Floating series may be something I should try. Do you have a pair in yellow I could try out? Six different models of sunglasses but they only offer yellow lenses on one of them. I wonder why that is?
  19. Ken, I just don't wear glasses for them to fit over. I've tried them but they weren't very comfortable. I have seen a pair or 2 in $200+ class with yellow lenses but I've tried them on and they had a curved lens that for me were blurry. I had a pair of H2O glasses with interchangeable lenses that to me (not to other people) were blurry. The $12 Strike Kings are much clearer to me than Oakley's or Maui Jim's. Apparently curved lenses have that effect on some people.
  20. If you don't get all the outdoor programming at home, check out this web site for free access to most of the outdoor shows including Lindner's Angling edge. http://myoutdoortv.com/index.php
  21. I've been trying to find yellow, polarized glasses for quite a while with little success. I also like them for near dusk and dawn's early light as they say, as well as cloudy days
  22. The list reads like the attendees at an AA meeting, no last names. Hi! I'm Scott and I'm a smallmouthaholic.
  23. The only resort I know of on the Menominee in an area where boats can be safely used is the rather pricey Four Seasons Resort (http://www.fourseasonswi.com/). They may have a pontoon boat available for rent, I'm not sure.
