  1. 1977 Seeburg Sunstar Stereo Jukebox. Holds 80 45 RPM records. Very good condition, recently inspected. $1,500 Call Scott at 815-577-7529
  2. Ahhh, ......never mind. That would have been too easy.
  3. I think I'll be hungry again by Saturday, I should be able to make it.
  4. You might be assemble a rod in a day, but the guides and handles are glued on with expoxy which takes several days to dry and cure completely. Also, depending on your choice of components, the builder may have to special order the blank, handle or other parts which will also add to the time needed to complete the job. If he is a high volume rod builder, and you aren't too fussy about the components he may have the parts on hand.
  5. I don't remember. I don't think it was Rosemont, it was probably Arlington. Jonn and Ed Loch were working the booth. I just went back into the newsletter archives and found that it was indeed the Arlington Park Sportfishing Expo sponsored by Ed Shirley Sports. That was Jan 8, 2000.
  6. His backyard is so full of trees, it would be fun to watch.
  7. There was an article about sunglasses in the March / April 2008 issue.
  8. Did Don remember to bring his chest pack this time or did he have to stop and buy another one?
  9. Steve, why is Don holding a fish that you obviously caught?
  10. How well does a fly rod cast a big minnow?
  11. The type of line and amount of line out also has an effect. Mono has a great deal of stretch. It take a huge sweep just to get all the stretch out of 50 feet of 8 pound test. A 50 foot piece 8 pound line that is wet when weighted with a 4 pound weight will stretch between 5 and 10 feet depending on the brand of line used. Braid on the other hand has almost no stretch (3 to 4 inches in the same test) so once the slack is out, it only takes a small movement to set the hook. 12. I've got one I can let you have. Send me a PM and we'll work something out.
  13. That car in the picture at 135th was empty and just sitting there. The road is currently closed (Duh!) along with Caton Farm Rd. I was amazed at how fast the current was moving IN THE PARKS! 50 feet from the original shoreline the water was really moving!
  14. Here are some pics of the DuPage near the Plainfield / Shorewood area. You can get near the water, you just can't get near the river. This is 135th St, west of the river. Seil Rd park in Shorewood Riverview Park near Rt. 59, Plainfield
  15. For me, I prefer the main branch of the DuPage to be flowing below 200cfs. As I type this, it is running at nearly 6000cfs! And, it's still raining. It's going to be a different river once the water levels get back down to normal. Lots of dead trees will be stuck in places they were'nt before.
  16. Take some photos I can use in the newsletter as well. Not to be picky, but the remnants of hurricane Ike are just getting here now! The rain we got yesterday was from a storm that started in the Pacific Ocean.
  17. Hey, if anybody can get some good photos showing the high water on any of our rivers, send them too me soon! The deadline for the next newsletter is Monday. Send photos or any other submissions to isalliance@sbcglobal.net
  18. 2 to 3 weeks isn't so bad. I had cubital tunnel syndrome which is similar but is in the elbow instead of the wrist. I was off work for 2 months. Luckily, I had the operation done in the winter and it never effected my chances to fish. Good luck for a full recovery!
  19. The cold weather one I can use now. If you send others, I can keep them on file or if I am short I'll use it now too.
  20. Those dual prop baits seem to get fouled in my Fireline on nearly every cast. Drives me nuts. I won't use them, especially the $16 Lucky Craft baits.
  21. Rich, thank you for stepping up and taking the president job for the last 2 years. We all appreciate all the time and effort you put in. Don, thank you for taking on the job. Many organizations fail due to a lack of talented people willing to take on the big jobs. We are very fortunate to have good people to step up when we need them. Thanks again to you both!
  22. Tying directly on is much better with buzz baits or spinner baits unless they are of the older design that has a closed loop to connect to. I've used those type of baits extensively in Canada for pike where a leader is essential. I gave up using the "open" style spinner bait when using a steel leader with a snap because of all the baits that were ruined and the constant fouling when the snap slid up the wire and I was fighting the fish with the snap pulling on the blades. Titanium wired baits bend and return to shape, but they snap off. Was it a titanium bait?
  23. Orvis sent me updated information if anyone is interested in applying for a position at the new store coming to Lombard. The new information is posted in the above message.
