  1. None of the above. It is a Wisconsin kangaroo.
  2. Well tie. Nicely tapered. Are those CCG stick-on eyes?
  3. Cool...... The next gen has arrived.
  4. Hey Tim, That fly looks very nice. I couldn't have done any better. As for the Eagle Claw 413-2 size# 2 hooks, I had to order them online from Cabela's and had them shipped to the store (free shipping) near me. I live only 5 minutes from the Hoffman Est store. If you can't get the exact hooks, you can use the 90 deg hooks as subsitutes. The important thing is the fly needs to ride hook-point-up to minize snags. Size #2 hooks had been working well for me. If fishing for smallmouth, I want the fly to be about 2"-2.5" in length. I think there was a post back by Norm or some one that mentioned that smallmouth prefers crawfish in 1.5"-2" sizes. But if you fish for largmouth, pike or muskie; larger is better. The Muskie that I caught on the Fox River last year took a 2" Foxy Crawdad. Thanks for catching the typos. Yes, it should be Red Krystal Flash, not Flashabou. I just made the changes in the original post. I used Red Krystal Flash with Olive Zongker and Gold Krystal Flash with Crawdad color Zonker. I also used different colors of rubber legs and hackles combination. The one I posted had been working well for me on the Fox River. Feel free to experiment with different colors combination and see which works well for your area. The brass dumbbell eyes that I used for this fly was a size 3/16". I ordered them from this site: http://www.ebay.com/itm/25-BRASS-FLY-TYING-BARBELL-DUMBELL-EYES-3-16-BLACK-4-5mm-medium-/300850057003?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item460c0f8f2b I'd found that this size eyes worked well in the shallow to about 4' (of cause, it also depends on how fast the current is). Since the fly rides hook-point-up, the fly snags less in really shallow. Another attribute of the eyes is that they tick the bottom and produce cricking noises. If need to go deeper or if the current is very fast, I use split-shot(s) (BB or 3/0) attached about 24" above the fly. I will share my long leader and tandem flies system, once I'd figured out how to take good pictures with monofilament lines. How to fish the fly? This was posted on Sept 24, 2012 fishing report. http://illinoissmallmouthalliance.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=9969http://illinoissmallmouthalliance.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=9969 It was in the Bulletine maybe an issue or two back. I hope these help......
  5. They are all good looking flies, especially the first one. The CCG plastic dumbbell eyes are very nice. They may last longer then the stick on eyes.

    tying tip

    Interesting and neat idea. Thanks.
  7. It was downpoured in the a.m. and was in the low 40's all day, yesterday. Fishing was OK, but it'll be better this coming week. Get well soon....
  8. No, but you could. I'm thinking of adding red marks for the gills. The body was craftfur and the back was congo hair. I didn't have dark color of craftfur for the back. Not thing fansy. I think it was McGuane's Ninety-Two in the Shade before bed.
  9. The fly can be buoyant, slow sinking, or fasting sinking by using foam or chenille as underbody and by wraping leadwire onto the hook shank. Tail = Marabous Body = Craftfur, Congo hair and Krystal flash I wish I have some of Terry's ear plugs to play with; but for now I'm just going to use foam sheets instead. Step-by-step is coming.
  10. I saw this fly in my dream the other night. Maybe it is because I've been thinking about suspending jerk baits and Rich's Shannon Streamer laterly. Or maybe I had seen it someway before. So I whipped up a few. Actually, it is just an evolution of the Stick Minnow that I had posted before. I see an endless possibility combination of colors, shapes and materials for this fly. It can be a skinny or a thick body. It can even be made into a tube jib fly.
  11. It's a hopper. It's a criket. It's a spider. Fish will love it.
  12. I got this documentary film link from MidCurrent.com. It is an eye opening and very disturbing. I think everyone need to watch this and beware of it. Salmon Confidential is an hour long documemtary about how farm raised salmons in BC Canada are killing the wild salmons and how some of those sick farm raised salmons ended up in supermarkets and restaurants. Next time when you out shopping for fish in supermarkets or ordering fish in restaurants, it may make you think twice. Draw your own conclusions after you'd watched it.
  13. Use a heavy hook would help keep the hook point down. The popper rolling from side to side is not a bad trait. A dying bait fish does that.

    something new

That is one neat idea. Not sure about casting and line damage though....
  15. Really like your tub jig flies. I picked up some Fish Skull Helmets from Cabela's awhile back when it was on sales, now that you gave some inspirations I'll have to tie some up.
  16. Found the site Rich. Thanks. http://bouncerflies.com/ It looks like a good idea. Just wonder why it has not caught on. Anyone ever tried? Yes Bart. If it works as it advertised, it should induce more strikes.
  17. I'll be there John. Looking forward to seeing the folks again. My steelheading plan got derailed by the cold snap.
  18. Tied up a few of the new crawdads with keel. The keel was made of 40lbs mono loop and 3 beats. First time I'd seen this style of fly was the Avalon Permit Fly featured in the Fly Fisherman Mag about 2 years ago. Supposely, the keel will make the fly bounce along the bottom and create ticking noise as well. Don't know how well it will work, but will report back later. BTW, the new fly is officially called "No Name Dad".
  19. Very creative. The Baitfish Emulator and the eyes really put life into the fly. I'll have to get myself some Baitfish Emulators to play with.
  20. Ryan, have a few in white and tan. They will come in handy. That looks a lot like my Marabou Muddler. I have had a lot of luck with them. Use the tandem flies technique that I showed you and use a weighted fly like the Clouser or Foxy Crawdad as the lead fly and your new Muddler as the trailer. They will be deadly in the water.
  21. I'm honore to be able to inspire someone. Those are pretty gooding looking flies, Jim. You got the touch and eyes for fly tying. May be we can hook-up sometimes in the summer.
  22. Good point Rich. Forgot to mentioned that in the instructions. Also, bending the hair brush bristles to 45 deg helps better eyes seating. The eyes also help in spreading the claws apart while retrieving, giving more actions to the fly. John L, Jude, and I will be tying at the LLBean in Hoffman Est tomorrow from noon-4pm on Sunday (tomorrow). I'll demo this new fly. Stop-by and say Hello.
  23. Meaty looking fly. Was the rabbit strip palmered or laid lengthwise on the hook shank?
  24. Thanks for all the comments. Angry Wife Craw? Interesting name. I'll have to think about that..... I agreed John. Eyes do make flies look more lively. Some salterwater guys sweared by it. Although, I have to admit that the hair brush bristles for eyes idea was not my original. It was from one of those youtube video. Just can't seem to find the video again.
