  13. Nice write. Always enjoy reading them. Had always heard of the sweetness and the smoothness of a Winston, and was not convinced 'til I owned one. Picked up a 6wt BIIIx about 3 months ago in a closeout sale. They weren't kidding about the sweetness and smoothness... Congrats on your new rod.
  14. Very entertaining. The how-to unwind package leader is a good tip. I don't use ring on the end of my leader, but I've been using a perfection-loop=knot or a surgeon's-loop-knot instead and loop-to-loop to the tippet. Another point I'd like to point out is that if you want a 3x leader then why not start out with a 3x leader and attach your 5x leader to it and forget about the leader gauge part; of cause this way you will end up with an 11' leader+tippet instead of 9' leader+tippet as in the video. Just my 2 cents. Otherwise, joined the video. Thanks.
  15. Nice tyes, Jonn. Perch, shad, and sucker are their main diets.
  16. This is a new online fly fishing magazine with women focus. There are a lot of good reads. And guys, it's not only for women. Our friends Captain Austin Aducci and Tim A were both featured in there. Check it out! It is FREE. http://dunthemagazine.com/Fall2013.html#
  17. Well said John. It depends on where you draw the line; and the line is diff for each individual.
  18. Nice tie, Tim. Hope to see some pics of monsters when you and Ryan get back.
  19. Where do you draw the line? I asked myself. Mike G's got a point. Fly fishing has come along way from the days of "the dry fly. fishing upstream for trout only". Today, we fly fish for all kind of species with all kind of flies. It seems there are no limits, but we have to draw the line some where. And for me, adding a spinner or a propeller on a fly has crossed the line. I'd not look down on some one using them, but I'd not use them myself.
  20. Obviously Umpqau think so..... https://umpqua.com/products/flies/bass-flies-subsurface/schmidterbait
  21. Mike, That was even more incredible. Lee Wulff was able to land a 30lbs salmon (his last salmon in the vid that took him down the rapid) on a 3-4 wt rod with a 2lbs tippet.
  22. It is kind of cool to see a legend in actions. Especially, he was using a 2oz bamboo rod (not sure what weight that would be. prob a 4-5 weight) and a light tippet (as Mike had pointed out, prob 8+lbs line) to catch a 14+lbs Atlantic Salmon. This film was shot in 1927. I think it was long before Lee became an advocate of C&R. Some of the footages were shot by his son, who prob at the time was only 10. What a thrill that must be for a boy that age to get to see and fish the virgin land of the north. Rob - The Brook Trout of the Minipi, produced by Joan and Lee in 1987, is another classic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwK0gYTzRz4
