  1. ronk - So are you saying that you buy a tapered leader and then after so many uses ( as you get closer to the butt) you then tie on a swivel/o-ring and then add tippet to that?
  2. Thanks. I just found out that the bags are 14.5" x 18", if anyone cares to know.
  3. Ben K. - As long as you have paperwork to show that the registration is in process then you're good to go. Would like to have you show for this with your yak. Tim - Cool. I suppose if we have breakfast beforehand, at the cafe, then we might be able to get a few more to show. Here's the bag they (FOTKR) are working on to hand out to tubers for their trash. I have sent them an digital image ISA Logo that I believe is going to be used in place of the "Illinois Smallmouth Alliance" black text.
  4. Just a thought................ I'm kind of thinking it might be a good idea to display "ISA Floats" at our booth. If I could get some members to show up at this thing with their floats (kayaks, canoes, pontoons, types of PFDs) we could show off our boats and discuss or answer questions or educate people on "Safe Floating". What do you think? Check it out......... http://www.rrstar.co...3-000-in-grants
  5. On June 9th the Friends of the Kishwaukee River (FOTKR) will be holding their "kick-off" party at Baumann park in Cherry Valley along the Kishwaukee River. Many of you have expressed interest in helping out at this event when the time comes. Now's the time. We (ISA) are going to have a booth/tent at this event. The FOTKR may also need some help. I am currently waiting for an email reply. If anybody would like to help out at this event please post here. Thanks.
  6. That's great rich! He even mentions your name. Way cool.
  7. Funny. I remember a report about a year ago from a certain somebody, when it was super super windy and cold out out, and this certain somebody killed 'em. Certain somebody had better not put a report for this Saturday, 4/28. Just sayin'.

  9. My week is ruined! Jude called me on Tuesday and informed me that he was going to go on a float later that afternoon and needed to swing by my house and pick up the yak stick. I had plans for that thing. Crap!!!
  10. Jude left his yak stick in my jeep after our N.W. Region float outing. It is now for sale. Bidding will start at $50,000.oo.
  11. 7 to 9 boats possible. We might want to think about splitting. I have updated the route map and added a "split route" (in green) that we may want to consider. Think about it and we'll talk over breakfast. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=203674955003766918642.0004bae73c12dabdfabb1&msa=0
  12. We usually figure it out at breakfast. The put-in is just a couple blocks from the cafe. The take-out isn't really all that far by road from the put-in. We may have a person to help shuttle if needed.
  13. Click on coffee cup in upper right hand corner for address........ http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=203674955003766918642.0004bae73c12dabdfabb1&msa=0
  14. ericg - Welcome! Much paddling shouldn't really be much of a concern on this stretch. There are two spots that might be tricky but with your "canoe experience" there shouldn't be any problems.
  15. Confirm........ Terry - in (pontoon) Jude - in (yuk) Bart - in (yak) Tim - in (yak) JonD, ericg - in (canoe) BenK - in (yak) PaulT - In for breakfast, not sure on float. (?) Nate D - ? (canoe) Eugene C - in (pond hopper)
  16. Jon, Do you need someone in your canoe with you? Not sure if we have anyone looking to hitch a ride. 1) This type of water is of the wet kind. It is also normally calm and smooth but with the rain last week it is up just a tad and moving a bit fast. 2) I'm not sure how a drag chain works so I'm not sure if it would be useful. 3) I would say with figuring in the rain and all that we're going to be in an average of 3 to 6 feet of water. 4) I guess that will be up to each individual. I do plan to stop and wade a couple areas. 5) The breakfast Mr. Jude speaks of is a good breakfast. But know this my fellow smallmouth brothers.......... Jude don't know crap about biscuits and gravy. He only eats at this place because it's just a couple stumbles and staggers out the Backyard Bar & Grill front door. Next time we'll do breakfast at the best B&G place in town. Tim, Sorry about the late start. It's going to be a bit nippy Sunday morning. The high for the day is only suppose to be 55, plus some of us are old. Check the map on my signature for directions to the Cherry Valley Cafe. PaulT - Are you in? NateD - Are you in? Eugene - I have you in my notes, are you interested?
  17. Weather Update: Storms moving into the area today with moderate to heavy rain falls. It looks to me that these storms could move north of the area. We'll have to wait and see. Todays weather (the next 24hrs. from 9:30am. on 4/19 to 9:30am. on 4/20) is the "do or die".
  18. I know one way they (FOTKR) plan to battle the drunken tubers is to try and make Baumann Park "Absolutely No Alcohol". Right now there is no drinking in Baumann Park but tubers are allowed to transfer alcohol from there cars to their tubes and begin drinking once they begin to float. If they get it changed then there will be a Cherry Valley police officer there to enforce the new ordinance. Okay, then what? They also want WCFPD to change to "No Drinking" within their forest preserves but I really don't see that happening nor should it. So now the tubers won't be able to put in at Baumann Park with alcohol so now they're going to put in some place else. Where? Which stretch of the Kish are they going to abuse now? I could see putting in at Kish F.P. and floating to Larsons Landing in New Milford. Or they would probably put in at Deer Run F.P. and float to Kish F.P. I've been keeping in touch with the Cherry Valley Trustee that is trying to change the rule for Baumann. If it gets changed then so will the float route. I would rather see more law enforcement but I don't think that will happen. I think I'm going to loose my south branch.

WOW! That thing is pretty cool. http://www.nucanoe.com/fish/
  20. The Kish went up 2.5ft from Sunday mornings rain. We have chances of rain for the area 4/16, 4/18, 4/19 & 4/20. I really don't like to float the Kish if the level is over 7.80ft. Keep an eye on it............ http://weather.hamweather.com/rivers/gauge/PRYI2.html
