Yeah they sure are nice, thanks. What are we looking at here?
  2. What about jumping from river to river? I know I've done it. Should we all have two or three sets of boots and waders and change between rivers if that's how you plan to fish? What irritates me is that they are going to set up zebra mussel monitoring stations in the west branch. While I don't know the topography why can't they just cut the lake off from the river? I know some things are easier said than done but come on already. We know how much it costs to fix something once it is wrecked. Why not fix it before and save some money... How about about we close that big canal before LM is wrecked... "non natives" have and always will be spread. the problem now is that it happens a lot faster... Okay off the box.
  3. I can't afford it this year but it is something I would eventually like to do. If anyone is undecided/on the fence I can honestly say I've been going to Coren's for years and the owner knows his stuff so you won't be disappointed. I learn something everytime I go there.
  4. I was discussing food with a co-worker and the discussion bunny trailed about after I brought up the dairy farm issue. While this isn't related to dairy it seems like a better way to do things or at least a step in the right direction. http://www.polyfacefarms.com/default.aspx
  5. Looking forward to the daily installments.
  6. Anyone interested in a circa late 1980’s Coleman liquid fuel lantern and a can of liquid fuel? The lantern itself does not work. It did work when I replaced the generator (piece that brings the fuel up from the reservoir) but I believe the generator got clogged again due to the reservoir starting to rust inside. Otherwise the lantern and case are in great shape and would make for good spare parts or I’m sure the lantern could be fixed with a new generator and reservoir. I just don’t feel like dealing… $20
  7. Merry Christmas to all. May you have peace, hope, love and lots of big smallies in the New Year! darn, another meeting i can't make, camping with the kids for scouts. maybe someone will recap... please...
  8. You mean they don't have a lazy boy yak yet That's all good advice! I've put off getting some sort of water craft for a few reasons but one of them was "comfort". Dick's has their annual something or other around Memorial Day. They have all the yaks out and a pool you can test them in. I stopped several years ago and could barely get in to some kayaks I guess due to my giraffe like legs. Last time I was in a canoe I didn't think I was going to be able to walk the next day Not to get too far off the subject but stretching or something will become part of my routine this year along with making sure I have a good electrolyte balance. A couple years ago I woke up in the middle of the night after wading with both hamstrings cramping. That was extremely painful and probably quite comical with me crawling and writhing on the floor in pain. It was freaking my wife out for a minute
  9. How comfortable are you in your yak? Also being 6'2" and having tighter hamstrings and lower back I need to be able to move around a bit/change positions (as much as I could in a yak).
  10. Ethanol isn't too green nor are a lot of other "green" touted items... Not to take anything from this post as it highlights a symptom of a world wide problem but was there ever a definitive answer from the powers that be that the ethanol spill was the cause of the fish kill? I know we debated a lot about this but I still find it hard to believe that a spill in a creek that led to another river that led to the Rock didn't affect the creek or the Kish but affected the Rock 30-50 miles downstream (or whatever the distance is). Not trying to argue or downplay just looking for some facts. No matter what the Railway company should pay for something/be fined just for being morons and ignoring a couple of calls that the tracks were compromised. I've said it before and I'll say it again... remember The Lorax!!! It should be required reading.
  11. Leapfrogging off JK... Gill Kill also Mottled Clown Kalaidiscope (sp)
  12. You can probably find the zone stuff online at the dnr site. On another note, what exactly are the rules? I believe there was some controversy late last year or earlier this year as two site specific regulations regarding fishing and waterfowling seemed to contridict each other. I know there was a lot of discussion here and other places but I don't recall seeing any closure to the issue. I'd like to know what the deal is as I may be able to make it down once or twice in the next month and don't want to offend any hunters. I know there is a yardage distance (what is it?) to keep clear of the blinds, I believe the waterfowlers need to have a spread of decoys out but that's all I know. I know I can find some of this in the 2009 Regs but there is still the contridiction issue.
  13. I stopped very briefly late Monday where I did okay in the spring out by your area and while I didn't take a temp I'd have to say high 40's / low 50's. This is only based on touching the lure to get off leaves/grass. That's not very scientific but it wasn't warm water and it wasn't super cold either. Clear, low and cool were my observations.
  14. Not the best weekend for me. PM me Friday. A lot of me do and honey do already... Sorry... Later in Oct might work better.

    Poster Child

Brownie/Cutthroat Gal based on her overall balancing ability of everything Storm guy is a close second. Even though it was probably staged it looks like he went through the proverbial gauntlet to get that fish.
  16. That sleeping bag was green and it folds. Did you lose that while on the night bite this summer
  17. LMAO Anytime "lets have a beer and come up with a plan" are uttered it's bound to turn out bad. I wonder if ever occured to them to let it go...
  18. Jim B you may want to stay at a low simmer... Unless someone heard anything different the company that was cleaning up filed for bankruptcy and the clean-up is on hold until that is sorted out which means the dam removal is on hold.
  19. I ended up getting pairing up with Bill K from Woodstock. Hat's off to him for making such a long drive. I echo Bill C's sentiments about the people making the day worthwhile. Nice to meet and work with you Bill K. We did fish after for about 3 hours. I picked up a 14.5 smallie on a tube on Bill got a rock bass on plastic. Here's a few pics from the clean up. The hard workers, the trash and a couple treasures. Norm, we looked for you to turn in the treasures but couldn't find you. I guess we'll have to keep them
  20. I'll have my camera, just need to remember to take it out of the car...
  21. Amen! Should be more depending on the topography but that's a good start. Perhaps someone wiser than me can answer this. How exactly does a dam alleviate or prevent flooding? Seems to me that a dam creates a pool. Then when we get a lot of rain that pool just fills up with water. Doesn't the Kank flood due to the big ice dam by 55. Haven't we had enough experience worldwide with hydrology to realize that dams and channeling create more problems not mention wrecking the ecosystem(s).
