SOT would be my choice. I had a 10 ft SIS for a few years and sold it recently. It was a great choice for my budget at the time and worked fine for the waters I fish. It was light weight and easy to transport. It came with a paddle and several other accessories. The only thing I had to purchase extra was a life jacket. There are several disadvantages to a SIS that wouldn't be a factor with a SOT. Don't go low end on this purchase. Many of the $200-$500 models are made from lower quality materials. They will get the job done but won't last as long for the avid angler. Others may disagree but I'm speaking from my own experience. I'm a little harder on my gear than some. If you only plan to use it occasionally the cheaper models may do. Get the best you can within your budget. Make sure you TEST DRIVE and ask for a discount. Try loading on your vehicle before you buy. I agree Terry...Made in the USA is the only option. Do your research and don't fall for marketing hype. I'm looking forward to what I consider an upgrade. I would suggest craigslist to find a deal. Or Paddle and Trail for a new one. Don't forget about their give back program for the ISA.
  2. I think it's a great idea. I'd be willing to help out. Good way to educate the community and build relationships. Count me in.
  3. Good meeting with a great turnout. Thanks Terry for organizing this. And a special thanks to our guest fly tyers Jude, Rich, and Mike. Thanks for sharing some of your wisdom and experience. I'll be practicing those five flies over the winter.
  4. An article here and there would be useful. There are a lot of kayak fishing resources out there, but if someone would like to share some insights/ personal experience in the bulletin I think it would be good. It seems there is a growing interest among ISA members in fishing from a kayak.
  5. I'll be there and I'm bringing one maybe two others.
  6. Rich, are you the guy referenced in a video on Fly Fish Ohio that is credited with the "Shannon's Streamer"?
  7. Thanks for relaying the message Terry
  8. I'll be there. Went to the Early Show this weekend and had a great time. In fact it inspired me to go out and get a vise, tools, and some materials yesterday. Early Christmas present from my wife:)
  9. I think I have it sold. A guy is coming to look at/ pick it up on Sunday. If he backs out I'll let you know.
  10. No, sorry it's not a Coosa or Cuda. It is a 10' Perception Manatee DLX from L.L. Bean. I bought it a couple of years ago and it has served me well on several lakes and streams in the N.W Region. Vary stable sit-inside kayak that comes with a Harmony paddle, two flush mounted rod holders, cockpit cover, adjustable Scotty rod holder, and an anchor. It does have normal wear mostly just scratches and scrapes on the bottom with the rear bottom taking most of the wear. L.L. Bean still offers this angler package for $649.00. http://www.llbean.co...4367-ppxs&dds=y I'm only asking $300.00. I only used it twice this year. This is a great kayak to start out in. PM me if you are interested.
  11. Find a pattern/lure that works and stick with it until it isn't producing any more. Then change it up. Although I will occasionally change it up if all I'm catching are smaller fish (under 12 in). The only time I won't change it up is if the topwater bite is on! I landed 42 smallmouth on a chug bug on July 4th this year and had a blast. Finally switched to a soft plastic so I could slow down a bit. It was 90+ degrees and I was worn out.
  12. That's awesome! Thanks for the post
  13. I can't make it. Two of my boys have football games. I've been wanting to fish that area. Can't wait to hear the report. Have fun guys
  14. I'm planning on coming, just need to know if we are wading, floating, or boating.
  15. That makes two of us Ben. I'm not too fond of snakes especially when they play peek-a-boo.
  16. Nice! Where did you catch that football Paul?
  17. By fly outing I was referring to guys actually using there fly rods. I think it would be great to have some experinced ISA fly fishermen there to help/mentor the less experienced guys/gals. The three outings I have attended this year only had spin fishing. By choice of course. I'm new to ffishing and would like to see some fellow ISA guys in action. That's all
  18. I wanted to bring my fly rod but Terry said they are useless on Kish smallies. Just kidding. Next year we should do a fly outing here in the NW. That will give me a little more time to practice and not make a fool out of myself. Well that might happen anyway:)
