  1. Wow! Eleven! That's enough to field a football team. We would all have to play both ways but it could be done. Watchout Chicago Bears. Looking foreward to being there Jude.
  2. Stan Z. - Thanks! Prairie Rivers Network is guiding me through the steps.
  3. I am for sure planning on being there but with all that is going on with all the family medical problems I can't say for sure. Pretty much taking it day by day at this point. As long as the rain holds off on Wednesday the Kish should be in great shape for Saturday. I really need to get out for a few hours of smallie fishing and some peace. Hope to see you at the greasy-spoon Saturday morning. Glad to hear the knee is coming along well.
  4. I took a few pictures on Saturday when this event was happening. There was one picture in particular that I thought just did not turn out. Here it is.............. I couldn't remember at the time of my original post what this picture was so I didn't post it thinking that what ever it was got bleached out by the sun reflecting back off the water. Today I remembered what I took a shot of and up-loaded the picture to Photo Bucket in an attempt to clear it up. This is what I got Caution - This may be shocking.................. Now you have a feel of how I felt yesterday. This is a shot that I used my zoom on to try and capture the rolling cloud like staining that was going on. The two pictures above are the same. Check the twigs and other stuff that is floating in the water. I wish I would have shot some video of this.
  5. Paul - It seems like there are breaks but the clarity of the water has gone way the heck down from what it was 2 1/2 - 3 years ago. The 'buck has been extremely stained all summer long. I should note that the time of the picture was @ 4pm on a Saturday. Another concern that I am starting to have with this is that there is another very similar company that has popped up within the last couple of years on the south branch of this Kish and I would sure hate to see this same thing start happening a few years down the road. Follow the Kish on a google map from Dekalb to Rockford, you'll see it. It's only a few feet away from the Kish and it looks to be pretty big. I stopped down today and took a look and now it looks nothing like it did in the picture. It's still stained but nothing like it was yesterday. I think I'll start making visits to Kilbuck on Saturdays and see if this is a once a week thing or a once a month thing.
  6. Drove by Kilbuck Creek today (8/13/11) and had to stop and take a picture of this................. The Kilbuck use to run clear this time of year up until two years ago. What I saw today makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. I know that I have brought this up before. There is a quarry that is draining into the creek and supposedly they have a permit to do so. I refuse to believe that a quarry can get a permit to totally destroy a once beautiful and clear running creek like it has been destroyed over the last couple of years. Is it possibly that I can get a permit to go onto the grounds of this quarry and see what it is exactly they are doing? Should I contact the IDNR? When the IDNR was there in July they had mentioned that the creek had looked extremely polluted. Is it just a waiting game at this point to see what the IDNR water samples say compared to the samples they took a few years ago? This really pees me off! During he shocking back in July, Kilbuck turned up the widest variety and the largest amount of fish of all the locations shocked in Winnebago Co., including the Kish. I guess that's good but it's hard to believe that anything can survive much longer if this keeps up.
  7. Tim and guest and also Paul S. - Sorry. I have to cancel. I have a Mom In-law who has been fighting cancer for 22 years who is now on her last hours/days and now my Father appears to be going through heart failure for the third day in a row. It's been one hell of a week running back and forth to both sides of the family and I just cannot commit to this clean up at this time. Again, sorry but I don't want to take the chance on you guys making the drive up here and me not be there. ~Terry. Please post that you all (Tim & Paul) saw this message. Thanks.
  8. Tim - Try the PM now. Also could you send me your phone #, I need to talk with you. Paul - I take it you've dried off? As of now this clean up is in a "hold" position until I talk with Tim. Sorry.
  9. Tim, Actually a morning time would work better for me this week but I am open to any time at all. The stretch being cleaned usually takes 2 to 2.5 hours just on a straight float with no stops. Most of the trash is going to be on islands. I take it the Doc didn't say anything about paddling?
  10. That's a big "CAN DO", Tim. Let's keep in mind to watch the weather. I don't see any problems in the forecast but then again I didn't know it was going to rain all day yesterday (8/8). How's the time (4pm) work for you? I know for a fact that somebody did a clean up last weekend, so if you would like to suggest a time that may be better for you please do so. I'm opened to any time. Oh and welcome back! How's the knee?
  11. Just to get this back up on the board....... New date: Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011. This would be the Sunday before Jude's ISA wade outing on Saturday, Aug. 20. So lets get 'er all cleaned up so the river gods will be nice to Jude the following weekend We'll stick with the same game plan as before and meet at Cherry Valley's Bowman Park canoe launch and plan to set sail at 4pm. Who's in? NOTE: Of course weather will have a wot to do with whether or whether not we do whis.
  12. Thank you! Bronzeback Bulletin, July/August 201. Got a kick out of Scott's write-up on Fluorocarbon Fishing Line. Especially paragraph 4 which begins, "I don't fish for every species.........." I have thought the same thoughts.
  13. 14. I guess we probably wouldn't have been able to do the clean-up anyways. One of the tubers drowned on the stretch to be cleaned Saturday and they still have not found the body. They had boat teams and helicopters checking the area so I'm sure they had that section closed off.
  15. CANCELLED The water level is going up at a fast rate. We'll try to reschedule this for sometime in Aug. *Jim J - Please post that you got this info.
  16. This event may be cancelled due to the mass amounts of rain that moved through the area this morning. I'm guessing with all the rain, the Kish will be at unsafe levels by 4pm today. Keep an eye on the board for updates. I could be wrong but we have to consider the fact that Jude is involved and normally when he gets involved.......... Well it rains and things get cancelled.
  17. Jim J - You're in? Bringing a yak? Rattle-Trap JimR - You and the boys going to make it with the canoe? Jude - Still bringing bags? I can get some bags if you don't want to go to all the trouble of unloading all your clothes from your bags. Let me know. Jay - That's me, Terry Jay Dodge. I saw all the "J" names and felt left out so I thought I'd share that little bit of information. Everybody Else - Last chance to let me know. If you are coming please let me know if you are bringing a ride. Just want to make sure no-body is left standing on the bank.
  18. The Kish is on the rise but the level should still be safe for the clean up. The level has gone up a foot since yesturday (7/22/11) from 5.59 to 6.57 at present but is starting to level off. Light rain is expected for Sunday from the hours of 2pm to 4pm so we should pretty much have the Kish to ourselves for the clean up.
  19. Anybody that may shows up for this be sure to have your pfd and other stuff that the DNR officers may want to see. We may run across them during this clean up. The more participants we have the more time Jude can spend trying to catch something. It would be nice to get a 100 people in on this as I have not seen a smallmouth report from Jude yet this year, besides the float trip he hosted earlier this year . Help a member out. Jude needs as much time as he can get.
  20. Kishwaukee River Clean Up: Sunday, July 24th @4:00pm. We'll meet at Bowman Park in Cherry Valley and float down to Kishwaukee River Forest Preserve. I have my 'toon and also a large canoe if needed. There are many island/sandbars that the tubers use that will need to be policed. Please reply if interested.
  21. Thanks Eric. I will most definitely tap into that resource. Not sure what this furunuclosis is or what exactly it can do but if I don't find out it's going to bug the carp out of me for a long, long time. I need to know.
