  1. Nice to see flyrods being used in the video for a change for this kind of fishing instead of the ubiquitous brutish 12-14' spey rods
  2. While the "main" march will be in Washington DC there will be local marches in various cities thruout the country undoubtedly including Chicago downtown. The Sierra Club , a national conservation organization, will provide more details as the date draws closer
  3. The Sierra Club is organizing a march on April 29th.While focusing on the issue of climate change anyone concerned with the environmental assaults fostered by Trump's administration should try to attend the march. We all need to stand in defense of our Mother.
  4. Thanks for the info Norm.It would be great if the influx of sand could be halted someday.
  5. A 9wt rod is way too much for smb. It's often the recommended wt for fish like king salmon and saltwater battlers like permit etc. Although an 8wt is a good choice for lmb typically found in/near heavy cover and very adept at using it to try and escape it is is more rod than needed for smallies in most situations. I agree with John G that how long it takes to land a fish has more to do with how efficiently it's fought than with the equipment used. It's very annoying to see a good size fish being fought too passively which unnecessarily lengthens the fight. For that reason it seems to me that Tenkaras are real fish killers i'm glad to see that after making a pretty good splash when they 1st came out jnterest in them is fading away Re rod vs fly size lighter wt rods like a 6wt wiil nicely cast the flies typical for smb if a good dubl haul is used to cast them. Learning to do it (well) is a must
  6. A novice caster would be better off with a 7wt rod for the xtra casting power it provides. TFO's BVK series of rods is a good choice.Don't skimp on the line.A premium weight forward line is definitely worth the cost. No need for an expensive reel. I'm happy with a $35 reel(Blaze) from piscifun, com
  7. I plan on coming to show everyone how I tie(ascots, bows, windsors etc)
  8. Or line the boat with indoor/outdoor carpeting in order to retain the benefit of studs if you plan to get out for some wading. On slippery streams studless rubber boots are worse than useless.
  9. Cabelas sell 5mm feltsoled bootfoot neos that provide much better instream traction than rubber soles. Mine work fine as long as i don't have to walk thru snow much since snow clings to the felt like steel to a magnet. Were they available the best choice for winter would be studded rubber soles.
  10. I own a Chota studded boot.It has a quick lace system that eliminates tying and is the only boot I've ever owned that slides on/off effortlessly even when dry.The sole is both glued and stitched to the upper to prevent separation that did occur with the original Chotas which weren't stitched.
  11. Yea the original quote was a more reasonable $800
  12. It's very sad to ponder how much more wonderful this wonderful planet would be if WE hadn't ruined so much of it.
  13. John Thanks to your efforts it gets bigger & better every year
  14. If the State is hard up for roadway $ what was Plainfield doing recently resurfacing sections of 2 roads,River & Frasier both of which were in good shape with not so much as a single pothole?Must've been a spend it or lose situation.Whatever it was it was a waste of taxpayer $ that could've been used by the IDNR
  15. The article exemplifies how addictive flycasting itself can be apart from the fishing. It certainly had that sensuously tactile affect on me the 1st time i cast a flyrod.
  16. What I thought about while looking at that fish is what the world record that weighed almost twice as much must've looked like. I can'i imagine a smallie that bg
  17. I just wanted to say kudos to all the contributors to the recent Bronzeback Bulletin which imo was the best ever which is saying a lot I especially enjoyed Terry's evocative article.
  18. With the water temps having cooled considerably morning fishing might not be the best choice,Midday fishing might actually be better.Of course evening is always a good bet
  19. I think I saw one porposing on the Fox yesterday(5 topwater smallies biggest 16")
