  1. I got out on the lower main dupe today, clarity in places 2' with cloudy stain not sediment. lots of floating weed parts, small but annoying. Still a good day to wade & pleasant temps - lots of dinks nothing of note or size. Although it could be clearer its definatly fishable. When in doubt try!
  2. Our monthly meeting for members to demonstrate fly patterns & tie along. Bring your thread & tools, materials will be provided. Arrive after 6pm. New to tying? Come out & learn! New location - for the present we will meet to tie in my garage at 348 West Windsor Ave., Lombard , IL. Questions? call me 630/251-5904 John Loebach- Arrive 6pm start 6:30pm. For the summer we will meet & fish instead of tying on 4th Mondays - this evening we will meet at 6- 6:30 pm at Clark island park (by the skate park) on Rte. 25 south of Batavia to fish the Fox river. All are welcome not just fly fishers so come join us! Fox is still high - we will meet at Casey's pond at Fermilab instead check Bassbuggers events or call me if you have any questions.
  3. Dick have your anchor on a short rope tie off & drop it at once or set up on choice spots with the anchor before you cast. I use a 2 to 4 lb coated dumbell, it is light tumbles in rock instead of snagging & its quiet on the drop or in the boat. That tarpon is a good stable platform isn't it? I agree with bterrill wading in a stream like the Dupe is my preference. I want to get out on the Kankakee with the yak to cover more water in an outing. One more thing - rig an anchor trolley & you can adjust & hold position despite current or wind.

  8. Unfortunatly due to continued high water this years planting is cancelled. Bob Rung area DNR biologist informed me that July is the end of the window for the plants to root & survive to next year. The latest rains will push us past that time window before the river returns to normal levels. We will do this again next year & continue to look for additional volunteer opportunities to improve our local waters.

  10. Wading opportunities are now more limited unless you"re as big as John L. due to the vast amount of weeds raising the water to levels uncomfortable or impossible for wading. G'd weeds! Good fish, Ron. Better than Josh or I could find on Saturday. Weeds were not that bad where we were. I must dispute the notion that the river rises when I step in.
  11. As of today the new date is 2 weeks out on 7/19 lets hope this time we will get it done. Hope to see everyone there, if you have already responded I will pm you.
  12. Numbers aren't everything. Nice fish, congrats Steve.
  13. Thanks for posting that Don. I'll be watching the weather & flow rates closly over the next 2 weeks.
  14. The outing at Fermi was a sucess. Thanks to Pat H., Michael T., Jim Krueger, Cory G. for coming out. A beautiful evening despite the mosquitos with a flurry of fish caught as the sun set. I think Cory caught the most on large deer hair poppers although everyone caught fish with the bass running from 10 to 16" mostly largemouth. This deserves doing again but I hope to fish the Fox in 4 weeks if it stops raining. In August I would like to fish north of I90 to accomocate Cory & others who have a long drive to Dupage county. Those who live & fish north please make suggestions - ponds or lake fishing is an option- just want to turn out some different members. Cory, Alan, Stuart & others please chime in.
  15. Glad to hear you have been getting out, Alan. With the high water this year I have fished flowing water ONCE & the season is well on to the half way point. I haven't found much on the ponds by me as far as bluegill but I have gotten some nice bass & I'm fishing large flies. I'll have to try the small stuff next time.
  16. Because of high water on the Fox we will meet at Casey's pond at Fermilab instead of Glenwood f.p. at Batavia. Access requires drivers liscence, tell them you are going to fish Casey's & ask for a map if you haven't been there before. I will try to be there by 5pm there are two ponds to fish no need for waders & Caseys does have smallies. Hope to see a good turnout theres plenty of room.

  18. Conservation event on the Fox river. We will plant 800- 1000 native emergent plants in the shallows of the river near the Montgomery dam. Start at 8am with enough help we will finish about 11am with lunch provided after. Bring your gear & fish afterwards! More info to follow. Rain date is 6/28.DUE TO HIGH WATER THE PLANTING IS POSTPONED UNTIL 7/12/08 - DETAILS REMAIN THE SAME.
  19. The weather report for Sunday made me cancel what was left of the float outing. I called newer member Jim Krueger & Stan Zarnewecki as they both had planned to come & we agreed to meet & try some local ponds. With Stan's freind Dave we fished retention ponds in 4 stops & found a few fish. One pond looked like it was worth returning to. On the way back to Lombard Jim & I checked out a local favorite & left prior to the rain with a couple more fish tired out. Thanks Jim, Stan & Dave, new water is always fun.
  20. Nice report , Alan. Like you with limited time I did some local pond hopping that produced a few fish before the weather intervened. Good to get out even if to test how far I can cast into the teeth of the southwest wind.
  21. We will meet at the State park concession area,8 am,to canoe or kayak part of the Kankakee river. All members welcome, bring your watercraft.Check website prior to event or call John Loebach @ 630/251-5904- high water levels may necessitate switch to Mazonia fish & wildlife area, north unit. CHANGED - Due to high water & too much work we will meet at Mazonia Fish & Wildlife Area on SUNDAY 6/8/08 at 8:00 AM. Sorry about the day delay but the alternative would be cancelling as I can't make Saturday. Bring gear for largemouth bass & bluegill as well as your watercraft. Please let me know if you are coming, PM or call 630/251-5904. Thanks, John L.

  23. Dan - good question. The site to meet is Montgomery park near the dam. We will likely walk from the meeting point after a demonstration to the planting sites. Some may take a short ride to start but we will all meet up back at the starting point afterward. Wish I could be more specific but I have not walked the area on the west side where we will plant this year. Soon I will post more detail after I get out there. Once we get started teams of 3 are seperated by a couple hundred yards at most & the planting takes place against the shoreline in a foot of water if the river is up, on the waters edge if its low( very unlikely this year). Mark has it nailed dead on you will learn more than a fishing outing because of the number of participants, the close proximity, & most of us realize that if you do this kind of activity you can be trusted with a little information. Besides its just fun.
  24. Nice find Mike, I agree that we are off the beaten path a bit but like you it sure feels like the norm. Those trout guys may have numbers & lots of press but most don't know what they are missing. More of them slowly awakening to how much more there is to flyfishing than trout & they are welcome to join us.
