  7. Welcome aboard, Steve! Keep an eye on the calendar & the lets hook up forum. Lots of opportunity to get on the water coming soon. See you on the water.
  8. Tapered leader with floating, short 18" to 36" tippet with sink tips. Also consider 6' sinking leader on your existing line instead of multi tip should work in most river situations & much cheaper.
  9. What jamie said unless I'm fishing the fly rod, then work the first drop parallel to shore & current seams.
  10. Chicago Region Meeting this Saturday! Meet at Bass Pro in Bolingbrook 6 PM. Speaker will be Bob Long Jr. for this meeting. Bob will talk about spin fishing for smallmouth bass. Bob was the headline speaker at the Bronzeback Blowout in 2005. It's great to have him back and in a smaller venue. You will come away from this meeting with great tips and techniques on how to catch river smallies. Bob is a regular contributor of raffle items and guide trips to the Blowout. Don't miss this one. This is an ISA members only meeting. I'll be raffling off some tackle. Bring a few dollars for your chance to win. http://www.flickr.com/people/bossbob50/ See you there!
  11. I agree that some of the upstream takes hook themselves but on very clear water watch how many times a bass will suck up the fly & spit it out without you feeling a thing. Even when you see this take you have a hard time setting the hook in time. This is why Holschlag & nymph fishers will use an indicater & set on any change of speed or direction, ups your chances & total catch.
  12. Up down across swing all have their place. Never been a big fan of upstream as it makes you work hard to keep up but there are days when they kill it as it comes downstream. Fish across with a swing & lift & hold it in the current when it is dead downstream wait or pull forward & let back a few times. Some days thats the skunk saver.
  13. Anyone interested in these shirts contact me as I will order more in a week or so. We do not stock to sell, order first & I'll get them out. PM me if you are interested SOON.

  16. Spring 2009 - just on the newsstands in the last week or so. Fly shops tend to sell out but Borders carries it.
  17. Seriously we've known Craig all along the start of his journey, but theFly Tyer article is big, he will appear again soon in the same magazine & a book in publication to be released this year devotes a chapter to his flies. In short if you have'nt met Craig look for him at the blowout tying at the start - bring a copy of the current spring issue of fly tyer (spring) & get him to sign it. Look for Hairy Fodder to appear in catalogs & retail shops this year by Rainey's flies.
  18. Craig's in town this week & will tie Tuesday at Drift meeting at COD 7pm rm M165AG ( west of Lambert furthest south bld.) Also on Thursday night at One More Cast , 6525 Joliet Rd. Countryside, 7pm. He will demostrate at the beginning of the Blowout as well. Look for his article on Hairy Fodder & interchangeable weighting in the current spring issue of Fly Tyer magazine & expect to see Hairy Fodders in local stores soon courtesy of Rainy's Inc. All ISA members are welcome at both events, bring your tools & tie along with Craig- the first Bassbugger!
