  1. Working on dates now for a 3 session (probably Sunday afternoons) rod building class with Eric Heckman at Coren's Rod & Reel. I have 4 or 5 already, not to exceed 8. $50.00 fee plus cost of materials. If interested post here or pm me - you won't be committed until all the details are known. Bring your own blank if you have one but don't pass up the chance to discuss what you want with Eric - he is one of the best sources in the area for this & has run this class as well as bamboo building many times. Looking to work this into the winter to early spring - probably Feb. & March. John

  24. Fast is a specialized tool to increase distance, overcome wind & cast heavier flies at that rod weight. The compromises are numerous but the simple fact is stiffer rods feel soulless & the fight once you hook up isn't as much fun. Some of the best casters I know only fish moderatly fast rods unless the conditions prohibit getting the fly in front of the fish. I plan to have an indoor casting outing similar to the Cast & Compare this winter looking at just this facet featuring graphite, fiberglass & (if I can get a couple) bamboo. If I get this together you should try to come, Jonn.
  25. I always use a double uni knot to rebuild the middle or to add the tippet. Duncan loop (single uni) to tie on the fly. Also retie onto the butt of factory tapered leaders & get more the one seasons use out of one tapered leader with no problems.
