  1. A reminder that this one time event is this Saturday - don't miss it! Joe Cornwall author of Fly Fishing Warm Water Rivers has RSVP'd to this event - check out his web site Fly Fish Ohio. It'll be fun to meet him, another urban warm water enthusiast much like most of the Bassbuggers. Hope the catching improves by Saturday. The river is in great summer shape, clearer than usual because of the flushing from all those spring rains. Lets keep this thread at the top this week, anyone coming sign on!
  2. Thanks Don. Isn't spotted included in the cure somewhere?
  3. Yes, same location - the monday nite leaves me with less choices because of time available. We may hit close by stretches of the Fox after the casting event. I'm open to suggestions for another outing further north in September or October.
  4. Who: Illinois Smallmouth Alliance in conjunction with One More Cast fly shop. Where: Glenwood park just below the South Batavia Dam on the Fox River When: Saturday August 1st starting at 9:00 a.m. running until lunch. What: A unique opportunity to cast selected Bass/Saltwater 6 and 8 weight rods....all under 8 feet in length with flies; the big hairy, wind resistant ones we love to throw to bass, on moving water. These are the Bank Shooter, Mangrove Bangin', Dock Hammering rods that you've read about and may have cast at Fly Shows. This is your chance to actually fish these rods. I will have the 7' 11" Sage Bluegill and Smallmouth Rods, the 7' 6" TICRx rods from TFO, the 7' 6" Flystick rods from Ross along with the 7' 6" Predator rods from Redington plus a few brand new surprises that no one has seen nor have they fished. John Lobach from the ISA in cooking some hot dogs, we will provide some beverages so plan on sticking around.
  5. 8/1 Short Rod Shootout 9:00AM Glenwood Park Forest Preserve south of Batavia on Rte. 25 Something new – we will test cast a group of rods & line weights that are designed to cast large flies & fight big fish in heavy cover. Sage Bass 7’ 11” rods, Ross Flystik 6 & 8 wt, Redington Predator 6 & 8 wt. and TFO Mangrove 7’ 6” 6 & 8 wt. are part of this lineup. A new niche market, these rods are aimed at warmwater use, they are shorter than most of the rods we fish & priced at 1/3 to ½ of most top end rods. A chance to try them on the water side by side. Bring your own rods to work on your casting or fish later. While not a class it will be a good time to learn from your fellow Bassbuggers. I’ll grill some dogs for lunch about 11:30 & we will target some areas to fish afterwards. Questions PM or call me. John L
  6. Really the thanks are due to all who helped out. Without numbers it would not happen, with the generous turnout it was FUN as it should be. A huge THANK YOU to everyone involved. Watch for other opportunities like this & come out for the Military Kids day on 8/22 at Herrick lake. Another event that is more fun than work & helps with the passing the torch by showing many kids the fun of fishing for the first time.
  7. See Marks post in coservation. Great event. Fished with Mark A. from drift & Airborn Mike downstream - we got a few & I shared acess to a nice stretch with Mike & Mark. Anyboidy else fish?
  8. Thanks, Mark. Some stats 30 volunteers from 5 groups - ISA 18, FOFR 6, IDNR 1, DRIFT 4, Uof I Master Naturalist program 1. Started 8:30 done with 1000 plants by 11:15 complete with lunch & moved onto fishing by noon. This is still my favorite conservation event precisely because I go check out the previous years work sites & its rewarding to see the results. Its also cool to see the fish activity in & around the beds in high water. Phil Jackson is actually Mark Agresta from DRIFT.
  9. 5:30AM rain is past - should be cloudy & moderate temp., If you are checking in YES its on we'll see you out there!
  10. I was there this morning & levels are low enough that a little rain will not stop us from getting it done. If you are concerned about a shower tomorrow morning bring a rain jacket. See you there.
  11. We are on for this Saturday 8AM at Montgomery Park. West side of river cross at Mill Street ( Montgomery Road) turn right onto River street & parallel park closer to the bridge than the dam. River looks good & I will fish some after lunch. Post or pm if you are coming please it will make planning lunch easier.

  14. Instead of tying on 4th mondays the Bassbuggers will fish again this summer. First outing meet at Glenwood park south of Batavia off Rte. 25 at 6pm. All members welcome so mark your calendar, bring your Yum crawbugs etc. & join us. We will try again to fish the Fox - hope for a little less water, see you there.
  15. Rained steadily the whole morning but some good size LMB mostly on spinner baits & plastics, a few bluegill. Nice pond clean water & a good restaurant. Lunch was excellant the microbrew was good, check it out sometime, www.onionpub.com. Not too expensive has meeting potential with a lot of space. Maybe we'll get a shot at doing this again sometime. Thanks to Ron G. & all who came.
  16. Plastics ruled last nite as some nice bass were caught by Spiz, Cory, Ron & jim b. The fly fishing was ok but had to beg to get the little bluegill. My best was a 8" LMB, seven total attended - lets get out oin ther river in July!
  17. Casey's pond it is unless its pouring rain. If you haven't been there before they want to see your drivers liscence at the entrance & have maps if you ask. See you there.
  18. Should be on, its a pond location(i think) & the weather looks good. Stan Z would know, I'll try to confirm.
  19. This Saturday 6/20, 10am to 4pm - Oakbrook TU will have hourlong free casting lessons. For details go to www.obtu.org. Stan Z wanted any ISA members interested to know this is a FREE educational outing to promote fly fishing.
  20. Instead of tying on 4th mondays the Bassbuggers will fish again this summer. First outing meet at Glenwood park south of Batavia off Rte. 25 at 6pm. All members welcome so mark your calendar, bring your Yum crawbugs etc. & join us. Ok - Friday 9pm fox is 5000cfs & rising fast. Ponds are the likely option - I can think of three Casey's at Fermilab, Waylon on Royce road & the newly opened Harrier on Sterns road. Anyone have an opinion? Open to suggestions - post here or pm, unless its raining I'll be fishing Monday evening.

  22. New date - high water again this year. Watch the conservation board for further info.
  23. Had to postpone because of high water & more rain coming - mark 7/11 on your calendars & hope for sunny dry weather for a couple of weeks.
  24. Nice fish, Ron! Public or private water? I'd consider pinching barbs, and always wear sunglasses.
