it really depends on the situation, on small streams you might need to take turns giving each other the first shots at the "new water". Sometimes you split it in half and cover different banks on small to medium sized rivers and streams. I think the best way is to stay close(spinning gear, fly gear you have to increase your distance apart) and throw different stuff to figure out what's working.

Hi Dick, I have a Native MantaRay 12 which is the sit on top 12'. I haven't tried the moving water yet but if you'd like to give it a try on some still water this spring let me know and we can hook up at the Skokie Lagoons. I wear waders in the yak when the water is cold and would most likely wear them for river fishing because I think I'd use it more of a spot to transportation vehicle than some to fish from on moving water. BTW, I'm the guy whose fishing license you found and returned from the Big Green about 6 years ago. Nick

The Shimano Crucial line is the best bang for the buck and have a great warranty as well. I don't know your budget but you may want to give the Kistler Magnesium TS a look. The G. Loomis IMX and GLX are amazing rods...just amazing but brutally expensive. I can't recommend the GL2 or GL3, I have 1 GL3 and really don't like it much.

wow, sounds like you need an emerger pattern, sparkle dun perhaps. Of course that's if you happen to be fly fishing, otherwise I would imagine that there are various fish feeding on the mayflies so maybe a weightless fluke to try for the larger fish capitalizing on the opportunity. If you happened to have a couple flies with you and could tie on a dropper off a topwater bait maybe you could get a fly drifting by with spinning gear but that's a lot of work so either the fluke or a chugger to cause a little surface disturbance to trigger a competitive bite. so whad'ya do?
