1. Me either Jude. That's a placeholder. Since no one can agree on a logo we went with something universally disliked. I love music, man. Gotta have a solid soundtrack. It's what Bourdain got right. Well, he got a lot right. His show ain't about food. At least, not only. But production music sounds like production music. All the bass shows use it. It reflects a lack of craft, at least to me. The fly guys get it right mostly. So does Outside TV. I suppose if you're on a hookset mission and throwin' 'em back like beer cans production music suffices. I've forced myself to watch a lot of those shows in the last 9 months. It gets really old. I hope that our show represents that we're not out there purely to catch. We have a different mission. We don't have anything to do with those River Rats. Although I like the gist. It's important to have a mission. -SB
2. Hey thanks guys. Jim - we're stilll looking for some music for the pilot. So far we've got: http://mightiestofguns.bandcamp.com/album/strange-birds http://comacinema.bandcamp.com/album/posthumous-release http://pocket-knife.bandcamp.com/album/broke-heartbroke As well as the Pat Sweany song in the trailer. Trying to make the soundtrack as ecclectic as possible. If your kid can clear it, let me know. I like their music and it fits well. Not mostly GoPro, it's 90% Canon DSLR. Not that I can recommend it, they tend to overheat at the 12 minute mark. If we had to do it over, and had some actual cash, we would have rented different stuff. But we went with what was on hand. -SB
3. Hard to remove yourself Eric when you're so close to it. I suck at all thing typography. That's a comp I made that definitely needs the hand of a designer. I like all of those ideas. Glad you could see the Jack Daniel's reference. Kind of a mix between that and this absinthe label I found online somewhere. I'm not sold on the fox either. I couldn't think of anything else to put in there tho. Great ideas. I like the fly reel idea. It would fit great. Hoping Brad and I get our first fly fishing lessons from Lefty Kreh. Still a deal in the making, but I know his publisher pretty well now. That'd be sweet! BTW - Gary Pack was asking about you the other day. I said we'd still never run into each other out there. -SB
4. Hey thanks guys. Shot in on 2 Canon DSLRs, a Handicam and a few GoPros. Editing in Final Cut X with some After Effects thrown in for good measure. It's a little too sparkly + sepia for my tastes, but I wanted to get something out and nitpick later. Heh. That isn't the final logo either. I like this: Or this: Which do you like the most? -SB
5. Hey Folks- My buddy Brad and I filmed an episode for a fishing show we're working on out on the Fox this year. The full episode is still being edited, but I'd be interested to get your take on the trailer. Hey! Got it embedded and everything. -SB
6. I'd disagree there, Ronk. But back to wading pace. Totally depends on the spot. Some places I need to cover a lot of water quickly to rule out dead zones and others I may make 3-10 casts on a single boulder. And there may be a set of a dozen or more rocks I'll hit in a 20' stretch. -SB
7. I've been talking to Tom and Jay down at Diablo Paddlesports. I think my next yak will be the Adios. Not exactly a yak, not exactly a paddleboard. http://www.diablopaddlesports.com/our_products -SB
8. You been stalking my FB profile Eric? -SB
9. Eric- My bad. I just come from the "even more is even more" camp. And my jig + twister + leader + snap + splitshot is KILLER in the fall... That's what I get all of my 7 lbers on. -SB
10. 5 Books, 3 Lures (Can't speak to the fly, as a gear chunker.) This has changed since I wrote my original Desert Island Tacklebox, so I figured I'd share. 1. 4" watermelon fluke 2. Shallow rap, silver & black 3. Rebel Craw Books: 1. The Sun Also Rises, Hemmingway 2. Post Office, Charles Bukowski 3. The Wind-up Bird Chronicles, Haruki Murakami 4. Trout Fishing in America, Richard Brautigan 5. Howl, Allen Ginsberg -SB
11. When I canoe down the river I'm looking for spots to pull off and wade. That might be part of the issue. Park and pick apart that 10% water. Too many lures, as mentioned, might be another. I am still looking for folks who would like to give me their take on their personal Desert Island Tacklebox. http://www.foxriverfishing.com/desert-island-tacklebox/ If you could only fish three lures, what would they be? The lures in my list were the lures I learned the Fox with. And if anyone is interested in providing a quick write-up, either post it in a new thread somewhere off of this topic, or email it to me. hello@foxriverfishing.net I still think it's mostly an issue of time. I fish the Fox 4-5 days a week and it's hard to find 'em some days. I can't imagine my chances if I'd only been out 3 times this year. -SB
12. Which river? No matter, my suggestion is to put in more time. Three trips in a year isn't enough. My $0.02, your mileage may vary. -SB
13. I fish the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior down in Alabama a few times a year. It's unobstructed and where the bridges cross it's not uncommon to find huge log jams. Not sure exactly how big that one was but you can get some scale from the folks in the river. Great spot to catch the Alabama Redeye Bass. Some of them don't have red eyes, some do. Thanks for the pics and sorry to have gone off-topic. -SB
14. We spot hopped the White with good success. I agree that there's a lot of water you can't reach by wading alone. There are several spots that combine for a very solid day of fishing. I actually prefer to fish urban water and the White hits that sweet spot. On one stretch there was a huge graffitti piece that read, "Oprah Made Me Do It." Not going to get that on Sugar Creek... Different strokes for different folks. -SB
15. Very nice pics. Which river is this? I had a chance to fish the White River in Indianapolis last year with a good friend. Beautiful water, nice and clear for an urban fishery. The smallmouth were on the smaller side when compared to the Fox. Sugar Creek is supposed to be amazing. The same buddy pulled a really big smallie out of there last summer. It's got me itching to visit again. -SB
16. Hey Mike- Happy to do so. So that I understand what you want - do you want me to copy + paste the mission of the project from the data.foxriverfishing.com home page? -SB
17. Hi Folks- I wanted to let you know that there is a project to collect angler diaries on the Fox River, and to invite you to participate as well. I could put up a long post about what it is, why it's important and how it came about, but it's best just to drop by the project home page and have a read for yourself. Check out: http://data.foxriverfishing.com If you'd like to participate it's pretty simple - just sign up for an account and start logging your trips. Hope to see those of you who fish the Fox provide some data to the project. While it's not 100% smallmouth specific, I have a feeling the diaries will be smallmouth heavy. You can sign up now and reporting officially opens on 4/1. Cheers, Sam
18. Beauty. Those colors are my preference on the Fox in the spring as well. Despite being a gear chunker. Could be a cray, helgie, who knows... not sure the fish put as much thought into it as we do.
19. Doggone it, I'm out of town on the 22nd. I will make a meeting this spring.
