jude Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 On Sunday, October 24th, Dan Kane of the Boone Co. Conservation District will be meeting any interested ISA members at the site of their ISA funded stream barb project. He's very excited and grateful for our support, and wants to keep the membership in the loop as to how their money is spent. The project should take place in early to mid November, and he wants us to see the "before" condition at the site. He will explain how it got this way, and what will be done to fix the problem. Some barbs were installed this summer just downstream of our site, so we can get a preview, too. He's agreed to do it on the weekend so as many members as possible can make it, so let's have a good showing! We will be meeting Dan at the Distillery Road Park entrance at 9:00, but I'm thinking breakfast at Ned's on State St/US20 between Rockford and Belvidere should come first, say 7:30 a.m. Fishing in the park area afterwards is NOT an option, as it will officially be closed to the public for bow hunting. That doesn't mean you can't bring the waders and head into Cherry Valley or Belvidere. Please let me know if you'll be joining us! PS I need a volunteer to take plenty of "before" pics. Quote
Mike Clifford Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Excellent work, Jude! Thanks for the update. Quote
Terry Dodge Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 Count me in. I'll also bring my camera for some pics but as of this very moment I don't think too many ISA members are impressed with my work so no guarantees on how they'll turn out, or what will turn out. Quote
Guest rich mc Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 you can take some good photos terry, just save the dancing till later.that is till you catch an 18 incher rich Quote

Terry Dodge Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 Anybody else going to make this gig? Come on, I'll leave my camera at home. Quote
Terry Dodge Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 So how did this come about to be an ISA funded project? Quote

jude Posted October 19, 2010 Author Report Posted October 19, 2010 Come on, NW guys! You're not going to make me eat breakfast with Terry all alone, are you? Seriously, it would be nice to have more than two guys show up for this. Quote
Mike Clifford Posted October 20, 2010 Report Posted October 20, 2010 Added to the online Calendar. Quote
maineman Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 I'm interested. Can anyone from the suburbs join in on a carpool? RonG Quote
jude Posted October 22, 2010 Author Report Posted October 22, 2010 POSTPONED! Dan has pneumonia and will NOT be able meet us on Sunday. It will be rescheduled on either the 1st or 3rd weekend in November. I'll keep you posted. Quote
jude Posted November 3, 2010 Author Report Posted November 3, 2010 It's back on for November 20. We'll meet at the Distillery Road Park entrance at 8:00, and go across the street to Ned's afterwards for breakfast. There is no deer hunting that weekend, so if you feel like wetting a line afterwards, that's an option. Please reply here if you're going to make it. Quote
Terry Dodge Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 I'm still in and now I have a nifty new HD camcorder I can break in on this outing. So are the barbs going to be installed already by the 20th? Quote

So are the barbs going to be installed already by the 20th? No...they have a few weeks of paperwork yet. But we will be able to see some recently installed barbs just downstream of "our" barbs. Quote
Terry Dodge Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 Here's a shot of the Winnebago County Forest Preserve stream barbs on the south branch of the Kishwaukee River. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLfAf4RItuQ Quote
jude Posted November 7, 2010 Author Report Posted November 7, 2010 Is that second one falling apart? Also, since you're posting barb pics as opposed to fish pics, I'm guessing not a stellar fishing day? Quote
Terry Dodge Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 No, none of the barbs are falling apart. All the rocks are fenced in and it is deep around each one. I'd say about five feet depth around each one except for the box shaped one. No, no fish today. Iwas just out walking around enjoying the sites. Quote
Mike Clifford Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Very interesting to see how the river flow reacts to the barbs. Much better than just looking at photos and making assumptions. Thanks for posting this, Terry! Quote
JimR Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 I would love to be there. Sounds like just what I need... But I'll be working. Sorry fellas. Quote
Kev-mo Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 I might be able to make this. I have to be in Rockford that day anyway but unsure of time. Will know for sure that week. Quote
Terry Dodge Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 We're still on for this Saturday the 20th, right? I plan on hitting a couple of Kishwaukee deep holes afterwards with the float & fly. Quote
jude Posted November 15, 2010 Author Report Posted November 15, 2010 Yep...still on for Saturday. Last I spoke with Paul, he thought he might make it, and hopefully Kevin D will be in town. Now how about the rest of you NW guys? I promise I won't let Terry dance. Quote
eugene f collins Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 I'm not sure if i can make it. C'mon Terry do the dance! Quote
