  1. Thanks for the tip rich. I see four new colors-Gleeful Garden, Spring Fling, Fireworks, and Sandscape. The Bubba names for fly colors are hard to figure out. Let's see. Gleeful Garden is Redbone. Spring Fling is Sexy Shad. Fireworks is Cotton Candy. Sandscape is Lite Beer. I feel better now. http://www.patonsyarns.com/product.php?LGC=bohemian BTW do you think there's a better chance of getting Black back if they called it Midnight At The Oasis?
  2. With a name like that it is worth taking a look. And...it turns out to be worth it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=f1g72bXix8U
  3. Thanks. I like it. Seriously, when was the last time you saw a frog wearing a tutu?
  4. Somehow with a cad like you it fits.
  5. There is a great picture on the back page also. Danny Goodman looks way two happy about winning two axes. "Tim has his work cutout for him monitoring the whereabouts and use of those axes!" Remember the nursery rhyme. “Danny Goodman took his axe and gave his mother 40 wacks. Then he took the other one and gave his father 41.”

There's always this for a lonely night of tying. http://www.redbeardflyfishing.com/fly-patterns/streamers/galloups-ta-bunker/
  7. I am waiting to see what this critter looks like as a finished fly. (Being a minimalist I hope all you did was add a squirrel hair tail. The rest-- 3-D Eyes, Whiskers, Hackle Skirt, Flaired Hackle Legs, Etc. Etc.-- are Eye Candy that don't do much for the fish though fishermen like them. At least they increase wind resistance and give you a better workout.)
  8. Good point. A little RTV, epoxy, or Softex in the cup might be needed to firm it up. But it might be fine without it. (Maybe an earplug would work, Terry. )
  9. Though this is a Musky bug, I could see it sized down. Besides there are a lot of good tips that you will see as he goes along. https://www.intheriffle.com/fly-tying-tips-techniques/bearded-lady-fly-tying-video/
  10. Fishing in the buff? Who was that masked fisherman? It's not your mother's burqa! The devil made me do it
  11. Just a thought. Suppose this technique turns out to produce bugs that outperform those tied with standard back to front spinning. Since front to back may be clumsy for knots and applying material, one can get the desired effect by clamping the eye of the hook in the vise and tying normally. (Righties left to right. Lefties right to left.) No problem with straight shank hooks and a rotating vise. Even with a non rotating vise, one would adapt quickly to tying with a top view instead of a side view. I am also looking forward to seeing the final product and hearing how it performs in the water.
  12. Walleye tactics always remind me of watching paint dry since they usually involve some form of slow trolling. It does not help that live bait is usually involved. I like to fish for Bass or Pike and let the Eyes come along as bonuses. So I would go with deep running bass lures (or flies) and hope to score an occasional Eye. For trolling the Slow Death rig is the latest greatest. Work one of those while you troll for Crappies.
  13. I am also sorry to see it go. It was close enough and featured guys like Lefty. It was also great working the ISA booth there.
  14. E Till recently I would have tried A or B or both. But Doug Hannon used to say,"Little fish are liars." That is, they fool you into thinking you are onto something and that all you have to do is a little tweaking to catch big ones. In reality larger fish are somewhere else and require a completely revised presentation--depth, speed, size, color, and action. 12" does not sound too bad for waters in IL, so I might consider D if I don't have much time.
  15. More credit to your dad. I assume he is the photographer for most of your pictures. He does a great job.

I will be flying out to Manila on Sunday. Time is short. Express checks or money orders to me so I can take cash with me. Obviously electronic transfers are not working. BTW Please pmail me his address.
  17. Great news! I thought that Shab would have a bigger existing record.
  18. Actually he was a professional wrestler caught here by the paparazzi. The Midnight Mullet Didn't everyone have a mullet at some time.
  19. Last year, due to some confusion, I got both the Prestige model 3 and the WR3 for Father's day. Based on visual and physical feel, I sent the Prestige back. Both are smooth with smooth one-way drags. It is easy to remove the spool on either one. Weight is about the same. I liked the machined anodized finish of the WR3 more than the enamel look of the Prestige. Like I said back then, I went for the bling. Besides, the Prestige, at full price, got me more in exchange. Both are obviously good products from the same source. Compare $20 to $30. At those prices, get both for the price of a carton of smokes. It is not worth the argument.
  20. Is this just getting into the mail boxes now? Almost 2 weeks ago I said this. http://illinoissmallmouthalliance.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=10701 Terry I will send you some copies though I suggest you fold over the corners instead of tearing out the pages to keep your place.
  21. Yes, indeed. The two posts in tandem would make a good entry for the bulletin. Canoe, kayak, jon boat, it's all the same. The only thing missing would be something on PFD selection. In the past I have read a few posts by wading anglers who went past the point of no return in heavy current. That is, the pressure of the current is so strong that they cannot back out of where they are and one step forward or to either side puts the water over the top of their waders. There is a bulletin article there about what to do in that situation. Call 911? It can happen even to the most cautious person.
  22. Thanks for reminding us of a good sale on an economical reel. I like to call it economical because this reel does not have any of the tacky characteristics that go with cheap. I have been using the WR2(5-6 wt) and the WR3(7-8) since last year with no complaints. Though it is true that they do not sell spare spools, you can get a whole other reel for less than what a spare spool for another make would cost you. It is a great backup that could just turn into your primary. And it has that cool Eifel tower look that is usually found only on more $$$ reels.

Sorry too. I met this woman at the mall who found a briefcase with one million dollars in it. She promised me half if I gave her an advance or 10 thousand to hire a lawyer to make sure we got all the money. Can't help him now. But by this time next month...
  24. Good dream. Later sounds way better fro the reasons you mentioned. Also I figure lower water in July or August would make it easier to spot the trash.
