I prefer a 6wt fast action.

A moderate action 6wt with a Smallmouth bass line will give you plenty of power to land a large specimen, while still allowing plenty of sport for the little guys.

I use Rio's smallmouth line, (6WT Floating). The bass taper shoots large, bulky or weighted flies with ease. ronk spelled out an important point, casting with a double haul method.

Get on youtube and look up flycasting. casting is a skill and you will need some practice. hauling, mending, reach cast, roll cast. There are too many to learn all at once. focus on the basic cast at first. When you pick up the double haul, this cast will allow you to overcome windy conditions, as well as making large bugs easier to cast.

I am glad to announce that I will host an open tying session at my home. Saturday February 11. 930am-1230. I will have coffee and donuts and a bag of materials from FTD. We will tie, dunk, tell stories, and fill a box for the blowout.

nice bug dude! I have one very similar. Ive seen it called a moorish mouse, whatever, who cares as long as it hunts!

Studded boots are the way to go for me. I had never considered felt as it seems to be high maintenance. Have seen the strap on stud system. LL Bean has a kit. Interestingly it secures with a BOA system! Looks clunky. $89 t'boot. Its amazing how many times fishing outfitters have tried to re invent the wheel, isn't it!? for my money can't beat screwing some studs into the soles of your boots.

I wouldn't recommend wading in old sneakers, too much debris on the river bed to tear thru an old wore out sole. Making for a ruined outing

I'm with you Eric, can't beat LL Bean's service warranty. I wish they'd produce their stuff here. But then again a $150 boot would be $450!

Looking at other forums for reviews the Simms boots are hot or cold. Peeps love them or hate them.

Which do you all like? I have been using the LL Bean emerger style, of which I'm not sure is available any longer. I have large feet (sized 14). I've been interested in the Simms or Orvis with the Boa system.
