  1. And when you can it makes you a richer man.
  2. I agree with Mike. Bait will be in those weeds, so the bass will too.
  3. That is how I first got involved in fly fishing. It worked on me in time, a diehard spin fisherman.
  4. Nice fish Rob. Maybe it's time to pull out the redbird blockhead so the birds might start smashing the rest of the league. I think there is potetial there.
  5. .............. Nice photos Rob.
  6. Aug. 2nd update. River is at lowest levels yet. This shot is taken from midstream looking upstream. It is about a mile upstream from the rivers mouth. There is water in the river up to this point. This however, is due to the Illinois River which is not at an all time low as of yet. The river does hold water in pools upstream from this point. There are dead Asian carp scattered throughout these rocks and in the pools above this point and the river below it. The air smells of dead fish. Lowell Bridge
  7. Thanks Rob, you make me smile. Great shots and the prettiest rope flies I've seen.
  8. I'd like to see a pic of those teeth snared in a rope fly. Keep us filled in Rob.
  9. I feel the wider gap does help in the hooking of larger fish. I find them much better for fish with thicker jawbones like stripers and flatheads. I tie most of my hybrid striper flies with wide gap hooks.
  10. The six musicians sitting at the table with me all say go with the fluorocarbon, as it has less stretch.
  11. The mouth of the river took a good drink, about 2 inches in an hour or so on Friday. Not much upstream at all. Nothing today.
  12. A few more shots. Lowell Big Bend Oglesby Ed Hand Bridge Red,White,& Blue Bridge
  13. HUh! I would say the " don't lean over my shoulder " rule would apply here.
  14. And then mine. We just had up to two inches of rain in just about an hour, but we are too far downstream for it to help. We need to see some rain in the Pontiac area or upstream from there to see the river rise.
  15. I see that its flow has dropped below it's lowest flow on record which was 40 years ago.
  16. Nice salmon. Tom was right . Grilled catfish sounds much better than gar balls.
  17. They are a fairly good hellgrammite imitation, and channels like hellgrammites. Nice cat Rob.
  18. Thanks Tom. Yes ,I believe they are pheasant. I've used a few different kinds of feathers for the claws. I have had great luck with guinea feathers also. Yes, I have stroked down the feathers also. I just like the look better if they are trimmed when I use peacock herl as the shell material.
  19. It is quite durable. It can get pretty ragged looking and still catch fish. For me it is a pain to tie right, but it is very productive. Thanks for the compliments guys.
