Norm M Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 just a reminder for the upcoming outing at kankakee state park for 4 PM--- the park closes at 8PM. folks have been ticketed for not getting out on time. Quote
Ed Buric Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 thanks for the heads up on that Norm.Last year we started earlier and the heat in the earlier afternoon was just too oppressive for our safety. That said I still would like to take advantage of the evening bite for this outing. Ed Quote
ronk Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 Parking in any of the area accesses rather than the park itself will allow one to fish as late as he wants. Quote
DaveF Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 Norm Harold and I plan on being there also. We got high watered out on our scheduled outing and we want to fish the kank something fierce. We see you at the kank outing. DaveF and Harold Quote
Kev-mo Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 Might be able to make this one. Will post back for sure when I know so you have a head count. Quote
Norm M Posted July 15, 2011 Author Report Posted July 15, 2011 should find out friday evening if i got the day off Quote
John Loebach Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 Just to clarify this outing is a week away on 7/23. River is at 2820cfs at Wilminton. Should be warm, low & clear in 8 days - if its stable wading & fishing should be good. Bring your topwater baits. Quote
Norm M Posted July 16, 2011 Author Report Posted July 16, 2011 Dave I got theday off work. Looking forward to seeing you again. Quote

With no end in sight to the 90's in the next 2 weeks one thing you shouldn't bring is waders. Quote
Norm M Posted July 18, 2011 Author Report Posted July 18, 2011 I've worn waders every day thru the recent heat wave. It'snot that bad. Quote

Ed Buric Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 cancelled. The forecast for Saturday at 4:00pm is a heat index of 103 F! That is just too hot to be safe. I understand that there are those that made plans to be there and are capable of handling the conditions,I suggest we leave this as a Let's Hook Up get together for them. We will shift the Chicago region outing to the water willow planting event at glenwood park on July 30th I regret any inconvenience, but I am not willing to put anyone's life at risk Ed Buric Quote
Norm M Posted July 22, 2011 Author Report Posted July 22, 2011 I took the day off work so I'll still be there, informally of course. Quote
Kev-mo Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 Provided the weather holds (no 3 inch rain events or catastrophic storms predicted around 4:00) I'll be there, informally of course... Quote
Jim Kast Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 I hope to be there in a tux. Informal.... PSSH! Quote
DaveF Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 Harold and I are still coming with boxes of poppers. Quote

John Loebach Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 Always, ED. The real question is the river going to look like chocolate milk by 4pm. I just came from Rolling Meadows & the ditches & creeks in the north burbs are raging. Customer said they had 5" in the gage from last nights storm. Hope the south side missed that. Quote
Jim Kast Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 Kank is looking good.... so far! http://waterdata.usg..._cd=00065,00060 Quote
Kev-mo Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 The river was in good shape except for the algae. I ended up on a section I never fished before. Never did the fish the spot on the spot as I made a few casts upstream and started getting fish on a chug bug so I kept going. Biggest about 15 and caught maybe 10/11 and missed/lost about half that. A chunk would have been nice but hey topwater is fun no matter what the size. I watched and listened to a storm build and got off the water about 8 ish. It was so hot I think my eyeballs were sweating. So glad someone invented sports drinks as water is just not enough on those kinds of days. Nice to see some familar faces and meet a couple new ones. Jim Kast Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 I caught a few small fish near some sand dunes covered with water willows. They were relating to the rocks leading to the sand bottom channel. Un-weighted dinger was the only offering they accepted. Quote
John Loebach Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Carl B. & I arrived late about 6pm ran into Dave F. & Harold. Fished until 8 below werner bridge with one small fish for Dave, the rest of us got the skunk. It was awfully hot - I should have wet waded. Nice to see the river down & clearing but it didn't last.
