Tom L Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 It was a fun event at the blowout - good conversations, good beers, and good company. Heard the food and the presentations were good too, but didn't stay long enough. But not before Alan Sherman slipped me some dubbing materials by "flytyersdungeon.com". Thanks Allen. These materials have a lot of potential. They are mixtures of long synthetic and rubber fibers mixed together. They breath and move in the water. Played with the materials today, inspired by Alan's Bungi Fly, and came up with a nice fly to share. This particular leech is made entirely from a dubbing mixed called "Sea Dragon Dubbing Black Leech". The tail is dubbing looped and furled. The body is dubbing looped and palmered. Quote
Mike Clifford Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 That thing looks amazing! If somebody put these things (and Jonn's craft hair flies) in water and showed how they flutter underwater in a video.....I might become a fly angler. I said "might"......don't get too excited. Quote
Jim Wright Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 The mad scientist at FTD has some wonderful synthetic materials. Tom, you are a mad scientist in your own right! Very creative ! No reason for a fish not to put that in its mouth Come to the dark side, Mike Quote
eugene f collins Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Great looking flies as usual Tom! Thanks for sharing! Quote
Mike Clifford Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Come to the dark side, Mike There were hundreds of flies at the Blowout that intrigued me....more than you know. I was JUST that close.... Then there was wine.. Priorities! Quote
Rob G Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Love it, Very well done ! Fly Tyers Dungeon doesn't carry a ton of different materials but they do carry some unique stuff and everything is always very reasonable priced. I love their numerous rubber legging materials. Quote
Tom L Posted March 10, 2015 Author Report Posted March 10, 2015 Thanks all for the kind words. I just figured out how to video and upload from my iPhone. Here is the swimming actions of the fly: Quote
