Andy C Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 I have been tying these up lately with sparkle fur and greg's fly lips. First trip to see how they worked and a high 30's muskies charged it and ate it right in front of me. Looks like they work. Articulated Non articulated The results Quote
Rob G Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 Andy, that is too neat for words. Nice Tiger! Do those flies with the lips really wobble back and forth like a Rapalla and do they seem to twist your leader at all? I've tried tying in those conical plasitc like funnels at the head with mixed results as to their action but have considered giving those fish lips a try. Did you buy them right from that one fellow's site? Quote
Andy C Posted February 21, 2013 Author Report Posted February 21, 2013 I use a 4 foot section of 17 pound mono tied to a swivel and then a 2 foot section of 12 pound flouro so line twist isn't much of an issue. The articulated flies don't seem to spin as much as the un-articulated versions. The un-articulated versions wobble pretty good, but spin in heavy current. The articulated version doesn't wobble as noticeably, but has a great tight wobble in current or when stripped. I really like them. The lip really makes the fly dive, so extra weight doesn't seem to be needed. I order greg's fly lips from feathercraft, but I am open to cheaper suggestions. I haven't tried the wobble disks yet, but I will try them out sooner or later. Quote
Rob G Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 Andy, you used to be able to buy those directly from Greg Saunders at flylipps.com but I don't see his site anymore. Anyway, thanks for the info Quote
Tim A Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 Interesting flies. I like the results Quote

Guest rich mc Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 ive seen some shannon streamers tied with the fly lips, they were small lips. before those lipps were invented tiers used some hard plastic clear notebook covers.one would cut to size then heat and bend the tie intab. i also seen a guy that used deer hair as the lip and epoxied it . rich Quote
