  1. Terry, after I finish my grits, would you distract Tim while I set up my vice?
  2. Happy Boxing Day! The RC is still the best Christmas Fly. Bottom Fly tied by my Uncle Bob around 1940 Top tied by me last year
  3. I will bring my vise and, having stopped smoking, my two remaining vices, women and alcohol. I hope to have a Bloody Mary with my grits. As for women I will improvise on the spot after I finish the grits.
  4. Ya got me there Ron. Though modern bait casting and spinning outfits are easy to use and highly effective, I take on the challenge of traditional fly fishing. I compare it to the difference between hunting with a high powered rifle and scope and hunting with a bow and arrow. I Don't always fly fish, but I keep the old ways alive.
  5. An add in the current bulletin gives the site address and the password. This restricts access to ISA members. If you do not have your last copy, a pmail to one of the officers should get you some help.
  6. No.If he did, he would know that Mike is ultraconservative.. He takes bourbon and scotch neat, beer at room temp. No ice. But cold is a good reason to drink.
  7. Thanks rich. I will check the archives for 2005. Maybe some others can check the other years till we find it. There's is another good reason to be a member since non-members have a hard time getting to the archives.
  8. Terry, Better tell the maitre d to figure on a couple hundred more.
  9. I I never had trouble hitting the hole. Cutting a 90 ft channel in the ice for the retrieve was a real pain especially when the ice got around 25 " deep. Cutting back to 75 feet cramped my stroke too much. So I turned to Ski Flying for winter when I could not get to New Zealand. Bummer!
  10. Rob, He asked me not you. Tim, As for a demo, isn't Jude a fishing buddy of yours? Maybe a private session? I know that about 6-7 years ago Jude demoed his bug for all Chicagoland at One More Cast (now out of business) in Countryside IL. So wouldn't ya think he would do it for his friends in Rockford and new members like yourself? Not for me to say. Since you seem to have an inside track with him, why doncha feel him out on this? Just thinking out loud here.
  11. Actually, Tim, the only gurgler you need to tie is the Jude Bug created by Northwest's very own Jude. It is convertible from Gentile to Jew, gurgler to slider, by repositioning the front flap. Now enjoy the Gentile 12 Days.

    Fun

Knowing the way a hawg bass can tow my canoe around, this looks like fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIFtBLZplgw#t=91 I like the looks of that recurve paddle too.
  13. I can beat ear wax. But first, nice fly, Tom though it may be a Fly Rod lure. Even if it soaks up water, rich could still cast it with his UL underspin. Rob, that is a great idea for a contest. Folks have been using exotic materials ever since Uncle Jack (also known for his shine) used the cork from his jug to make a popper. A'course with no cork for the jug, he had to finish the jug to keep it from spoilin.' He said. But Aunt Kate hit him with the fry pan anyway. Terry used ear plugs first. Craig uses hair curlers to make the Frawg. His Ringer is an optical product you may remember. There's a video on tying a condom nymph. Though I have not seen one using the wrapper. If you tied it with a tail from Trigger's mane, would it be a Trojan Horse? Around 1970 or so I fished panfish flies I made from aluminum pop cans. I was the first to make flies out of Dinosaurs.
  14. Scott, Mine always did. Sonar is a sonic signal not an electronic signal that would be shielded by the metal. (Electronic would be shorted by water also.) I had to turn up the gain a little. We used the system first on a 12 ft Sears Aluminum Jon boat. On a Grumman 17 ft square stern I used an abbreviated version - no plunger. I just stuck the transducer into a puddle of water on the bottom of the boat. The hull has to be a solid material with no voids. For example, it will not work on sandwiched hulls that put a layer of foam between the transducer and the water.
  15. I am watching this one because I am thinking about getting something for my canoe. Through the hull is a good way to go. It will work with solid plastic, fiberglass, or aluminum hulls as long as the hull material is the only thing between you and the water. A 40 year old solution that can be used with most any transducer involves a toilet plunger head. Trim it to form a collar that holds the transducer. Glue the rim to the bottom of the canoe in a convenient location. For use fill the reservoir that this forms with water and insert the transducer. The big pro is that you do not have to have a bracket outside the boat to hold the gadget-no drag. O yeh. Save the left over plunger handle. The dowel can be cut in sections to be used when you have to put heavy pressure on a line that would cut you fingers. When you snag a lure with high test superbraid, wrap the line around the dowel and pull till something gives. You ain't got time to hire a scuba diver to go down and get the lure.
  16. No. You have to drill a hole in the flows and fish through the hole.
  17. Is it time? IMHO it is never time to ice fish.
  18. Right now I plan to be there without my spouse because "this is a popular venue for shopping for knickknacks." I will bring my vice; watch your spouse.
  19. This is my attempt to quote Rob G. It is peculiar to just the machine I am on now.
  20. That looks like a good way to solve the problem. The strips may be marked with the Spike-It markers Tom showed us last summer.
  21. Lately I cannot quote anyone in my replies. When I punch the quote button, I get a reply form without the quotation. A minor irritation. Anyone else have that issue?
  22. My bad. Since moving to the NW from the western burbs of Chicago, I have not adjusted my expectations. Anyway, while Jonn is up here, are you going to get him out on the KIsh for a shot at Brutus with the float and fly?
