  3. I have a 15 ft aluminum canoe that I received as a gift in 1972. So it has some age but is in very serviceable condition. It is just taking up space in my backyard. I would be glad to let some one have it that could use it. If interested send me a PM.

  8. All this talk of poison ivy reminds me of my youth. My dad took me fishing when I was about 8 or 9 to my uncles farm pond. After an hour or so I had to go. Told my dad who said just go behind the tree. "No dad I have to do #2 and there is no toilet paper" 'Just use a leaf' Wrong leaf. What a miseable two weeks that was.
  9. Terry if you need my help I would be gald to talk to Tom Kalousek about the signs. I've know Tom professional for over 30 years.
  10. I have had fish tagged by stocking company for fishing days for kids, so you might start there.
  11. Bill K and I are planning on coming over, but we thought the meeting was at 10 a.m., as I see from your post it is at noon.
  12. Rich I live in Cary, not far from Woodstock and am not attending the Blowout this year. If I can be of help this year let me know.
  13. I also got stuck while fidhing the Kish this last Sunday. It was not covered by water but a mud flat. I started to walk across and began to get stuck. The more I struggled the deeper I went in till I was up to my thighs. Fortuately I was with my buddy, Bill K. who had to get a big log forme to use to get out. It really takes a big effort to get free.
  14. I'm with Mike. A composting container such as the peat pot they use in gardening. I'm not sure of the biological requirment of worms but it is a place to start. If left on a stream bank the peat container would decompose and they are readily available now. It would porbably have to be redesigned. They all come with a hole in the bottom. Just a thought.
  15. The Apple last Saturday was up about 10 inches or so. Water clarity was about 18-24 inches. We did find some different chaannels than normal this time of year. The four of us caught fish with Paul T and his dad show us how it is done. Paul Sr. caught 28, Paul just a few less and Ed caught four and myself only 2. The bait of choice was a small (2") senko paused in a deeper hole. Good luck! Let us know how you do.
  16. Bill K and I fished down stream from the planting to past eh bridge. Both of us got one strike each but no hook up. It was a good day though and I thought quite a good turn out for the planting.
  17. I've fished the Nippersink many times and there are smallies farther up stream where it flows through parks, but they have no size to them, a 14" is a big fish.
  18. Had a very new experience for me this spring at work. I work for a Park District where I am the Supt. Of Parks. The District has Maintenance responsibility for 3 big water retention lakes. These lakes are much like a bath tub, meaning relatively shallow. Well about 4-5 weeks ago we started seeing dead fish, so we had to clean them up. It turned out to be 2,000 lbs of dead carp. There were a few bullheads and maybe one or two LM bass. It was reported to IDNR fisheries biologist who determined the cause was a bacterial infection because of over population. Of course there is a up side and down side. The upside is how quickly the water cleared up. We had constructed fish cribs and sank them about 10 years ago which is the last time we saw them. Well I am happy to report they are still there and visible now. The biologist informed this was an excellent time to stock the lake with bass, which we are trying to do, but we found out from the company we normally use for stocking fish that this infection is more wide spread than what we thought and fingerlings are hjard to come by. The downside is that we will probably see more aquatic weeds with the increased light to the bottom and the dead fish will increase the water fertility and cause an algae bloom later thsi summer
  19. Bill K. and I lucked out and were able to help out today withthe fish shocking on Stillman and Sugar Creek. It was a last minute deal thanks to Bill having Karen's number. The creeks were small and the first turned out to have some large fish (Carp) and some Smallies, of course most were s forage fish. It was very interesting and I would do it again in a minute. Here are some photos from today. I hope this turns out as I am not good at this.
  20. I won't be able to make the outing tomorrow, but did get down to the Kankakee Friday with a friend that grew up in Wilmington and his son. We fished for 4 hours and caught 20 fish, 10 of which were smallies. All were caught within a few feet of the bank. The river was up and so was the wind. Water temp was 56 degrees. Al but two of the smallies were caught on minnows and the bit was light. The other two were taken on a shallow running crank bait. Othe fish included rock bass, LM, crappie, and walleye.
  21. My guess on the fish length is 21 inches and 3.6 lbs for weight.
  22. I'm heading out west to visit several National Parks. Searched the internet and found out lead fishing equipment is prohibited in Glacier National Park. I visited Bass Proshop in Boilingbrook and asked for lures without lead. All they could find is Mini-mites. Evan most barrel swivels have lead in them. I would appreciate any suggestions.
  23. Another old remedy is rubbing Jewel Weed on it. Reduces the itching for several hours. Also very hot water for a few minutes will intensivy the itching for about 30 seconds then the itching subsides. Just log enough to get to sleep at night.
