  1. I did notice a strong resemblance to Carnac the Magnificent there Swami. Yeah been busy and have some free time on my hands now that the New year is here. Heading to Kissimee Chain in Feb. for 9 days of Fishing and Disney. Got a free guided tour for making a bunch of plastics up for the guide who took me last time on Lake TOHO. Which is a big deal because it cost me $285 for 6 hours last time. And it was wild shiner fishing. Not my favorite but does produce large fish. This time will be artificial. I drive by the Rock everyday and look at open water dreaming of Spring. Although I do have 5m waders now and have been thinkin of hitting the Ice Shelves with a Float and Fly.
  2. 50% off clearance items as well. Anything with a .94 or .97 ending price. I bought 10 Rapalas on Friday. DT's and X-Raps...$28.94 was the total amount. That woulda been a $100 bill any other time.
  3. I am real fond of the X-rap slash baits. Gold,Rusty Crawdad and Orange and Gold. This year however I tried a new rig that I read about in In-Fisherman...A tandem Fluke rig. It's a simple method that produced very well for me numbers wise. It's a 3 way swivel with 8 and 12 inch flouro leaders and a couple 4 inch flukes with size 2 worm hooks. It's action is quite impressive as it mimics chasing baitfish and darting in opposite directions everytime you twitch them. It worked real well on T.Dodges beloved Kilbuck. Also I love throwing anything hand poured. The action is 10X of store bought lures but there is a downfall...Due to the softness they get torn up pretty quick but at a a measley .02 I think I can afford to make more. Not to mention I just re-melt them anyway.
  4. The KVD Quantum Series is on sale for $50 at Bass Pro as stated above. This is basically a Quantum Code with his Signature. I have a Code and like it very much! I just don't use it as often because I went and spent more money on reels that are about the same in performance. I.E. Revo! I guess I can't bring myself to use at as often as I should out of guilt or shame that I wasted the money on a couple of higher profile reels. This is a very good beginner Baitcaster and is a great price. I paid 89.99 for my Code about 4 years ago. It's easy to dial in and has a matte finish to it so it doesn't scratch like the more expensive models.
  5. Quantum Tour PT.7:3 gear ratio. This is the smoothest Baitcaster I have ever used. I have been able to cast Weightless Flukes and Senkos with this one. I have never been able to that with any other baitcaster consistently so far. I mainly purchased this because I throw a lot of Cranks and like to cover water fast. It's a very versatile reel. I have a Revo and a Core as well and they are both good reels but don't even compare in my opinion to the Tour Edition. Hope this helps! Good Luck in your Request from Santa!
  6. I put em on a standing jig head hooked through the head and just drug them across the bottom. I had to work em agonizingly slow.
  7. So I had a friend recommend the Trigger X 5 inch Leech last week. He had been saying how he was catching a lot of Smallies on them lately while fishing for Walleye. I decided to give em a try. Low and behold I caught 4 in about and hour at a creek mouth on the Rock River. Biggest was 13 inches but all close to the same size. Seeing as how they only have 1 style "Black" which is usually the case in all bio leech baits. I decided to make a mold with these in order to tweak the colors in my own fashion. I thought if it had a little red glitter in it that it could be deadly. I also Designed a new Buzz Frog this week that has extreme action. It's one of those baits that you truly get excited about. We all usually have one. So here they are! The Leeches are a little crude but the frogs turned out awesome. Tell me what you guys think! Oh and T.Dodge...Your right! I don't just fish...I catch!
  8. Wow! There have been several inquiries on where I got sucked into quicksand. I'm glad there was such a strong interest because I don't want anyone else to find it the way I did. I was very fortunate to be with a friend. It could have been ugly. I had my friend email me one of the pics to show where and what it looks like. At the base of this pylon the water is a couple inches deep and the sand is under it. It looks solid and in some spots it may be but not where I hopped out. Around the perimeter it's about 5 to 6 ft. deep I hope this helps the rest of you.
  9. Terry's got no excuse! I gave him a tip before the trip on what my son and I were catching them on Thursday. The secret...a super fluke junior, tandem rig on a 3 way swivel. Cut 2 lengths of line, 1 at 8 inches the other at 12. It gives the illusion of chasing baitfish and is very effective right now! Was in this months Infisherman. I guess some people would rather watch others catch fish.
  10. Wish I could join you fellas, alas I have to go earn money. Taking my 5 year old out this morning for a Kish trip. Did some scouting yesterday and the Kish is finally starting to look like the Kish again. Gonna hit a few spots kid permitting. Armed with leeches for him and topwaters and soft plastics for me. This will be my 1st trip on the Kish in 3 months since we moved to Ogle county. I feel like a little kid filled with excitement. Will give a report and hopefully some pics when we get back.
  11. I fell into a hut once. It was stupid but you do what you have to do to get to the fish. I was standing on top and the thing caved in. I was up to my armpits on the hut with the lower portion of my body in the water. I couldn't see what was in there only felt them flipping out and thrashing around my legs. That was a real bad feeling! I pulled myself out and was very humbled. I still the get the creeps every time I see one.
  12. I've retracted that thought. This is the exact reason for choosing the Ocean Kayak Big Game Prowler. It's rated for 650 lbs., 36 inches wide, sits high in the water and is as stable as s pier. I have been standing in it a lot lately due to sight fishing and just to stretch out. So rig up your toons Terry! I won't poke fun and I know when I'm wrong.
  13. I don't know for sure about 4 lakes but for some reason I don't think you can. As for slop techniques at Olsen, I have caught several fish working deep in the weeds but have caught the most quality fish on the weed lines with either a fluke or a swimbait. They do have Smallies out there but the biggest I have caught is only about 14 inches. They hang by the riprap near the dam and usually hit small crankbaits or rattle trap style cranks. The only down fall is that there are a lot of pike in that area and they are usually good for a quick cut off on the cranks. Obviously I'm not using a leader so that I don't compromise the action of the baits I'm using. No guts,No glory! Let me know when you decide to go out there and maybe when can hook up. That goes for you too Dodge!
  14. Lake Delton has fish in it once again! They have stocked many large fish from other area lakes along with the avg. starter dinks. We have relatives that live on the lake and have been getting very good reports on high numbers of 16 inch walleye and decent sized crappie. The Bass are on avg. 10-14 inches.
  15. LOL! Yeah me and TD have a little historic rivalry going. The only thing we can agree on is our love for Bronzebacks. As for Olsen lake I'm sorry you got detoured. It is quite the fishery for this area. The lack of land access is it's secret. If you have a non motorized watercraft there is no better public place to go for Largies in Northern IL. I haven't caught any yet but there is an abundance of 5 plusers in this lake and more 2 to 3 pounders than you can shake a stick at. I have seen 40+ inch pike in there also. 1 grabbed a 10 inch Smallie that I caught right next to my yak. Spencer park has too much pressure. Only time that I have done well out there is pre-spawn using a white spinner. Make it a point to go out there again Paul! You will not be disappointed.
