Mike Clifford
I'd like to thank all our volunteers for choosing once again to give their time to mentor young anglers and the next generation of conservationists. Scout-O-Rama 2010, held at Cantigny in Wheaton provided us the opportunity to create great big smiles to our scouting community. After many years of doing this sort of thing, I'm sometimes tempted to take the easy way out and retire from the "event scene". A few particular moments served to remind me why we do what we do. The one smile at the end of the video will keep me working for this cause for many years to come. This is what it's all about. Mike Clifford
Awww...just a minor catfish wound. To think I used to fish exclusively for this species for years, and it was only the 2nd time I got the prong. Tried to elude Eugene's investigative journalism, but he's pretty quick and sneaky with the camera. I can't lie, it was great fun at the end of a long day. I gotta party with you, brother. jim bielecki
Great event and you did a great job on the video Mike! I'm happy I was able to get out and experience this event. Lots of great activities for the kids and education. I think Steve had more fun than the kids!

It was a nice touch to include a pic or two of the other groups that were involved. It was nice to see pics of the Oswego Fishing Fools, Some of the guys from Sgt. Tommy's Kids, and DRiFT. Heck, I didn't even know you took pictures of me teaching the flycasting. Like you said, it's so great to see the smile on the kids faces and the joy they get. It's great knowing we've introduced someone else to such a wonderful sport. I love helping the BSA and I don't even have any boys.... all girls. I just remember my scouting days and how little was available like this and how much I would have loved to have had the kind of opportunities our groups are providing to the kids now. I just hope that one day they will find the same drive to pass it on and pay it forward. Thanks to everyone who participated and made it such a wonderful experience for the kids. Mike Clifford
Mike, We need to get a few DRiFT casting instructors out to Herrick Lake on June 19th for Sgt. Tommy's Kids Day. I always enjoy watching your group promote the sport. We'll be sharing the field again at the pond in Silver Springs this Fall, of course. Talk about irony, a gentleman helping to run the Oswegoland tent is a long-time ISA member, as were also volunteers for DRiFT and Sgt. Tommy's Kids. Truly another successful TEAM effort. Mike Clifford
Just got an email from the organizer. They shattered all previous records for this event. Over 14,000 people came through the gate.

Scott Ferguson
Name: Viki Shaw Email: vshaw1118@yahoo.com Message: Hi there! I\'m with Cub Scout Pack 569 in Aurora, IL. We met a few of your members at the Scout-O-Rama in May. The men we spoke with mentioned that they may be interested/able to help us at our annual fishing derby. Our kids are from 1st-5th grade. The men said that they could possibly teach something to the kids. They also suggested something about possibly providing some bait and/or prizes for the kids at the derby. Our fishing derby is June 19th at Oakhurst Forest Preserve in Aurora, IL. If your group is able to help us in any way, we would greatly appreciate it. We\'re a newer pack and don\'t have a lot of resources for a full-fledged fishing derby yet. We\'d love to make it a learning experience as well. Some of these kids have never even fished before! (Not sure if they even have poles...) Thank you for any help you can give us. If not, thank you for taking the time to read my letter and take it into consideration. Sincerely, Viki L. Mike Clifford
June 19....ewwww. Same day as Sgt. Tommy's at Herrick Lake. I'll call her as well and speak to Sgt. Tommy's group. Perhaps we can send them some rods or something for the kids. Sent Viki an email. Hi Viki. Your request for ISA help with your Derby was passed along to me. We usually accept most of these, but it happens to fall on the same day as ours that we host along with a group called Sgt. Tommy's Kids. We posted your request on our forum, however. If anyone in the area is interested, they will likely be in touch with you. Good luck with your event and thanks for choosing to introduce kids to fishing and the outdoors. I hope it is hugely successful! Best Regards, Mike Clifford
Mike Clifford
Sgt. Tommy's group is giving Viki's kids rods/reels and tackle for their fishing event. We "saved" their fishing day, as she put it. What a great feeling to call someone and tell them we have whatever they need. That's why I do this. ALSO- She is very interested in getting her group out to our water willow plantings on the 26th. Funny sometimes how networking can blossom. Mike Clifford
Viki stopped by at the Kids Fishing Day and we provided her with the boxes of new rods and reels and tackle boxes full of tackle for her scout group's event the same day.
