PLEASE REGISTER HERE TO ATTEND!: http://kankakeeriver.eventbrite.com/ Some friends in conservation are putting together the full video documentary of the river and it's problems, and the plan is to include them in this event and get footage for this extremely ambitious project. View the short introductory version: Our second ISA Stream Team sampling event will take place in the Kankakee River State Park on Sunday, June 6. We will be hosting local youth groups, citizens and members interested in learning more about the incredible biodiversity of this watershed. The sampling process will include kick seining in Rock Creek, testing for water quality indicators and identification of insects collected. Our Conservation Station tent will be set up on location for this event. From 9-10 a.m. we will be accepting registrations and doing some light trash removal on the shoreline. When the sampling work is concluded, we'll be grilling hot dogs and burgers for all involved. We can use some help to set up and supervise on this project. A producer/cameraman and editor of the WTTW series Chicago By Boat: The New River Tour and Seven Wonders of Chicago. Also recipient of awards from the Chicago International Film Festival and the Midwest Independent Film Festival. Very much looking forward to it. Norm M Posted June 3, 2010 Report Share Posted June 3, 2010 The Momence and Chebanse gauges both show the levels to be rising slightly which means that water is still coming our way. Based on the present levels and from what Mike and I both observed tonight, it is not reasonable to believe that the water levels will be low enough to be safe enough by Sunday.
