  1. Nothing caught initially, missed three hits on jigs. i was watching the river rise, seeing the debris and boils move closer to shore, seeing the slower, slacker water decrease as the seam moved shoreward. zach did a cleanup on the area before we moved off to do some retention pond fishing. the ponds were all up about 3 to 4 ft, got some largemouth under debris mats. other than that the ponds were dead, even by the inflow pipes.

later in the evening took the dog for a walk and just happened to have the rod in the car. Fished a bit, got a few smallmouth on jig/twister literally right next to shore. Amazed the bucket brigaders with 8 ozs of weight trying to fish the middle of the river.

  2. very wadeable. as mentioned take it slow and you should be fine especially if you have previous wading experience.

I would suggest some thick quality socks to help with the pounding your feet will take from the rocks.

this river flows harder than most other smallmouth rivers in the state. if you do slip, ride it out feet first downstream until you start bumping bottom. then stand up with mostly bruised pride as the damage.

  3. I never said you have to write areport any certain way , include anything you don't wish to or not include pictures and sizes if you like.

I simply stated my opinion of what makes a good report.

    Do what floats your cork.

  4. fishing reports that educate others as to environmental, climatic and current conditions while offering insights into lures/presentations that are effective in those conditions beat pictures and sizes of fish.

    imho

  5. Norm:

I wanted you and the ISA to know that Rep. Frank Mautino is developing a bill for dedicated funding to the IDNR. This is good, but the focus is on parks and land acquisition. These are good, but fisheries is dying, our license fees are being diverted, hatcheries are deplorable, no Lake Michigan Manager, fisheries at half staffing, and the list goes on. Bowman had a great article in the Suntimes by Mike Conlin under Stray Casts. He tells it like it is. I would hope that you and the ISA would e-mail this Rep and let him know you desire more funding for fisheries in said bill. Once we loose the resource, it will take generations to gain it back, if ever. Any help would be appreciated.

    Rep. Frank Mautino e-mail patti76th@ivnet.com

Dale Bowman me 16 people showed up to hear IDNR director Marc Millers talk on the state of the IDNR budget at the Rosemont show. I was at the Tinley show when he gave the same talk. If I remember correctly Dale and I counted 64 people there. Think of the thousands that attended both shows and didn't come. Public apathy is a real problem. We need to help.

Some of you know Mike Quigley

  6. wow, he beat the water with the line and caught it in his teeth. i fail to see how that helps you catch fish.

it looks to be about as useful as the guys who used to be in the distance casting affairs with rods and reels you didn't use for actual fishing.
