  1. Looking for suggestions for a kayak. I know there are a number of Jackson users on this forum. Which would you recommend and why? I'm 6' and 215lbs and primarily would be using it on the fox and kankakee with a trip or two a year on the dupe and mazon. Initially I'm leaning toward the Big rig because of stability.

6-1" and (at least) 240 pounds here, I love my Coosa and find it plenty stable.

(not the Eric Jim is talking about)

  2. Using leftover nylon accesory webbing and caribiners from my old rock climbing days I just hang the Coosa under a shelf in the garage, quite space efficient.

  3. Seat comfort and lumbar support are important, especially for us older guys!

Absolutely, the seat is wonderful on my coosa with great back support and the raised seat helps my back be more comfortable as well.

I do wish the Coosa weighed a little less and was a little faster on big water, my dream kayak if I ever get another one might be the Jackson Cuda LT (lightweight) however I sure like the supreme maneuverability of the Coosa. Unbeatable on small rivers. I guess the best of both worlds would be to have one of each (one shorter, wider, very maneuverable kayak like the Coosa for rivers , one longer pointier one for longer paddles on bigger water). Not feasable from a cost standpoint for me at this time.

  4. I am currently using several different line setups for different smallmouth purposes:

    1. Straight 12 pound mono for crank, Buzzbait, spinnerbait, swimbait.

    2. Suffix 10 pound green braid for jig/Hula and general use (without leader).

    3. Suffix bright yellow 10 pound braid with 10 pound flourocarbon leader for dead-stick Senko or Fluke. Have to be careful with hook setting technique using flourocarbon leader for sure. (reel up some slack and feel the fish slightly before hookset as in Jeff Little's videos)

    4. For a lightweight 1/32 jig for bluegills or smallies in clear water I might use my light action or ultralight action rod with 10 pound braid and an 8 pound mono leader.

  5. Thanks for hosting Terry!

It was a nice morning on the water with clouds and drizzle to keep us cooler than expected. I had to leave early for a family event but ended up with 6 smb caught on four different lures.

    (Honey Buzz, crank, Hula, Senko).

I had one big one on the Honey Buzz but it put on a jumping show and threw the bait. Lost another one on the Hula that felt big.
