ronk
A cupl pics of hummers at the feeder by my dinette window posted last Sept.Of the many varieties the only one in our region is the ruby throated named after the marking on the male's throat.Unfortunately only the less colorful female ever comes to a feeder if mine which I've had for years is any indication. They're called hummers because their wings beat so fast(250 times a second?) that they make a humming sound. They're the only birds capable of still flight or backwards flight. In order to survive they need to migrate to warmer climes in autumn. Therefore feeders should be removed by mid October to discourage their remaining in our area too long for their own good. PS I wonder why of all the species in the animal kingdom ours is the only one where the female is prettier than the male.
Fredmo
My granddaughters have been taught by my wife that Hummingbirds hum, because they can't remember the words.
