  1. Maybe this competition could be limited to us grown-ups, otherwise known as seniors. Boy, I remember Green Stamps!
  2. The Tribune article says this is near Oakwood, so Rob, is that located south of I-74? I was trying to get it into my head just where this is. It is such a pretty river and a great environment for so many different activities, I hate to see it anywhere along the river.
  3. Supposed the lack of response is no one has any ideas, not interested, or just chomping at the bit for fishing weather to get here (for those of us who aren't cold weather fans)? My latest Fly Tyer magazine has a couple of ideas I might like to try, but need to find a wine bottle with an aluminum seal.
  4. There's always Friday's and Panera's nearby the firehouse, as well as your favorite barbeque at Dave's.
  5. Rob-Just looked at the video. Do you plan to use craft fur or bucktail?
  6. Hopefully mine were received last week, at least they were sent.
  7. So, you are suggesting making them and just leave out the hook?
  8. I recently was looking at tying some flies with some of the bucktail that i've acquired over the past months. I was looking at a Mickey Finn, but that seems to require red and yellow bucktail. Are other color combinations used with success, as in making other colors and still catch fish? Interested in input from anyone who has some experience in this area.
  9. I got mine tied, not sure what Rob means by "more appropriate" flies.
  10. I read all this so I think someone owes me a six-pack. I'll accept a dark or light beer, bottles or cans, but cold.
  11. I see Cabela's have their own Guidewear Boots with BOA and also a Korker's Whitehorse boot with aBoa system, both somewhat discounted. Anyone know anything about either?
  12. I'll use this as an excuse to get back to the vise. I'll do the Bully's Bluegill spider, as described by Terry Wilson.
  13. Warren Goetsch never met a CAFO he didn't like. At one point the Illinois Dept. of Ag had never turned down a permit request, not sure from the article that there has been any change.
  14. Curious as to what has happened to the club members in the central part of the state. We used to have a number of events scheduled throughout the spring, summer and fall. Do we have a coordinator any longer? I drove across the Vermilion just south of Starved Rock and remembered learning about that area from club members on an outing. We still have had winter fly tying, but guess I have to use them on my own.
  15. Looking forward to getting back into things and seeing everyone. Seems like a long time since I tried tying or fishing. As I have become semi-retired I seem to have less time....and energy.
  16. I'll be turning lots more years than you on the 31st and I don't have nearly as much enthusiasm to show off what I've tied. Always interested to see what Jim Zoerb has to show us.
  17. I've been trying to close down my law practice, and had some springtime medical troubles so fishing has not been on my radar, but I was looking for a get-together to fish downstate, and see nothing. I know we have had our share of rain, and the Mac looks high, as does the Vermilion that I see at Pontiac. Is there any thought of a get together closer than the Kish? How about the Vermilion near Danville? Did we not schedule downstate events this year?
  18. How did the Jan. 25 session go? I've been out of the loop, moved my office into my home, other distractions. Hope to make the Feb.22 gathering. Fred
  19. Seems like several years ago I was reading about the virtues and vices of felt soled or rubber soled wading boots, and which were ecologically better, etc. Don't remember how that came down. I'm needing some new boots and wonder if there's any suggestions of what's best. I'll be in MO for some trout this year a couple of times, but generally will be in Central IL looking for smallies most of the time. Any suggestion of a all-around preference?
  20. I'm finally going to use my time share in Branson and will be down there the last week in August. Any suggestions for flies I might want to use down there? I've got a few weeks to tie up something to use if I knew what might be good.
  21. We have a very skilled snow plow driver covering my street. He managed to open the door to my neighbor's mailbox, and just tore off the door to mine. I found it when the snow melted this past monday, rescued it to the garage, will wait to try to put it back on after this last 2+ inches melts away and it looks like we are in the clear for a while.
  22. It would have been blasphemy to have a chicken dinner at Jonah's. Not sure any was on the menu. I think my copy of the book is coming from U.K., still waiting on it.
