Mike Clifford
Here we go again...... On August 23, 2010, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was petitioned by the Center for Biological Diversity and four other organizations to ban all lead in fishing tackle under the Toxic Substances Control Act. This includes sinkers, jigs, weighted fly line, and components that contain lead such as brass and ballast in a wide variety of lures, including spinners, stick baits and more. http://www.capwiz.com/keepamericafishing/issues/alert/?alertid=16355526
mattyvac
Environmentalism is here, once again. Cass Sunstein, an animal rights fanatic and one of Obama's czars, has petitioned the EPA to ban lead in many forms, including fishing tackle and firearm ammunition. Another University of Chicago Constitutional scholar, this man wants to ban lots of stuff, in the name of a better environment. Have you heard about his proposal for a government ban on conspiracy theories? Government sponsored infiltration of conspiracy theorist groups - like the Mom's who participate in any Tea Party? Those who scream so loudly about saving the earth always seem to have an answer involving urgent need for Government growth and intervention. The Government can save the environment. And then it can save Health Care. And It can correct the Economy. And the Government could save everything else if only it was big enough, and had enough power to control everything. Very urgent, because babies suffer when the Government doesn't do something. It's always the same old saw. I've had it. Big Gov could fix us all. Every free thinking one of us. Hate to say it, but the only thing I find disagreeable is the lead ban. http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/ And they sound well intentioned but misdirected, if you ask me. You gotta appreciate the thinking behind the Endangered Species Condoms. http://www.endangeredspeciescondoms.com/ I like the Snail Darter one LOL. Mike Clifford
Why is it the hunting community always manages to repel these kinds of things, while anglers barely have a leg to stand on? http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/news/press_releases/2010/lead-08-27-2010.html Same with the change in landowner liability protections. Everything but shooting sports was removed. Coincidence? I think not. We can learn alot from a hunter. The paragraph at the bottom of the petition page spells it all out very well. Lead from fishing tackle killing birds is localized and needs to be dealt with on a local level, and only after adequate studies have been done. I have yet to see a dead shorebird around these parts. Mark K
Why is it the hunting community always manages to repel these kinds of things, while anglers barely have a leg to stand on? Easy. They are armed. HA! I believe there are cases where birds get lead poisoning from fishing tackle, especially fish eating birds. Putting my money where my mouth is, I have been trying to use non-lead where possible. The bullet sinkers are da-bomb far superior to lead. Scott Ferguson
Why is it the hunting community always manages to repel these kinds of things, while anglers barely have a leg to stand on? http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/news/press_releases/2010/lead-08-27-2010.html The hunters had to give up lead shot for hunting years ago. They did not go willingly then. So I guess they weren't able to repel that.
