Not sure what this is all about. Was e-mailed this today.

 

HB37 - Lease Closed Parks

Rep. Moffit (R-Galesburg)

Monitor

 

Requires that the Dept. of Natural Resources and the Illinois Historical Preservation Agency offer to lease to any interested unit of local government, non-profit organization, or public or private college or university the operation and maintenance of any closed State Park or Historic Site for One Dollar for between one to five years.

 

3/11/2009 - Passed State Government Committee 17-0-0 Second Reading.

Mark,

 

I smell politics here. Some do-gooders want to open public parks for public use with local governments footing the bill. At the club all the fellows agree that this is a shameless waste of our tax dollars.

What is a shameless waste of taxpayer dollars? That a non-profit organization, or private university pay for the maintenance and operation of a park? If a local government takes over the park, it takes it off the budget of the state. The state is saving money not wasting it. Can you explain what you mean?
