  1. Fishin or wishin I were fishin!

  2. 16' red. Great condition...makes a nice river fishing machine. I'm asking more on craigslist but $350.00 is as low as I'm willing to go I'll get pics up soon.
  3. Has anyone ever fished (or heard of...) the Kyte river? I just got a new job in Rochelle and I've heard that it's a good river. I scouted it today and fished a little but nobody was home...at least they didn't answer when I came knockin. I saw that a farmer ran barbed wire across it...low enough to be right in a paddler's face...not nice. Is this a navigable stream? It looks wadeable. Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks JS
  4. Hi everyone, Been a while since I've been here. I had some serious personal issues that needed most or all of my attention in the last few months. I don't think I fished all summer!!! Anyhoo.... It's good to be back and it looks like some nice fish are being caught here and there. I think the high water of the summer may have turned a few people away, but it seems some managed to have some luck. I'm hoping to get out "for real" this wednesday with a buddy of mine and I hope we do ok. I'll have to do some research here and see if I can remember how to fish I'm glad to be back in the swing of things. I'll renew my membership (Scott F) and hopefully get to hook up with some of you guys soon for some fall fatties. Sorry to those I left hanging... Ken D : I'll stop in and see you soon. Jonn Graham: Still got those swimjigs I ordered?
  5. Awesome!!! Anyone thinking of dropping some dough on a new reel should really check out Okuma's.
  6. Sounds like a pretty sweet bonus!! I know a few good gill spots. I usually pass them up because I'm going after bass. This is probably typical with us. Although, gettin into a good bunch of gills with some bonus bass is a real treat. Nice find, Mark. I'd like to try for them with a fly rod. I especially like to put the kids on gills when we're up in Lake Geneva. I usually don't get to fish because I'm baiting hooks and unhooking fish constantly...it's exhausting! This year mommy's going to get her hands all wormy and fishy, too. I have a 6 weight fly rod set up for bass. Is it too much rod for pannies? What about flies. I think all I have are bass flies and dry flies.
  7. Excellent! Nice to have met you (sorta), Bill. That one guy said he was after baitfish. My arse! People like that are out every time I fish on the weekends in that area. If he was catching bait , he wouldn't have vacated so quickly after I said something. You didn't happen to see the other goof balls in the big inflatable yellow pontoon, did you? They had a tiller motor on the back and tried getting under the bridge. The water under there is very shallow....almost ripped the motor off the thing. They made multiple attempts to get under that bridge from both sides of the island to no avail. I started heckling them after a while because they were acting like complete fools. Pretty soon they left. I'd guess that they didn't have much of a prop left. Needless to say, I wrapped up my fishing for the day. That's why I don't like to fish there on the weekends...It's like a circus. Scary part is...there was a spawning area right in their path. I think the spawn is wrapping up but, I'm not sure. Don't even know if they were on it or not. Hopefully they didn't do big damage. Your help would be appreciated with the signs...Just as soon as I can find a couple signs. I'm going to contact a few people and see what I can get. I'll let you know. Maybe we could get a few more guys involved and have a small unofficial sign posting/cleanup/outing just around that area. Anyone interested??? Don't forget your fishing gear. JS
  8. As of today, the sign is gone from the C-Ville dam area. It was there learlier this year. Now...gone. Post and all. Don, if you have anymore,I'd be more than happy to come an get them so I can put them up. I'd actually like a few signs. There are other heavy usage spots along that stretch. Caught a guy throwing a casting net. Asked him if he was catching fish in it and if he knew it was illegal. He and his partner abruptly left. I had the help of another smallmouth wader. Never got his name. Lots of people out fishing and playing today. No fishies. Water high and murky, bluebird sky, and hot. If it weren't for work I'd still be fishing...Gotta go! JS
  9. Yes, it says that Steve Bos operates Bos Family Farms but mentions nothing about Fair Oaks Farm. I don't think the two are affiliated.... I hope not, anyways. I kinda like the place. I hope their waste management practices aren't so damaging. www.fofarms.com
  10. I noticed tat there is a Bos family farm in Fair Oaks, IN. Is this the same A.J. Bos? Is this farm affiliated with Fair Oaks Farms, just a few miles down I-65? Bos seems HUGE!!! Looks like they have many farms that do not operate under the Bos name.
  11. Smells funky in here. Seems like A.J. Boos and co. are going to be treating some people at IDOA, IDNR, and the Jo Davies Co. board to some very nice dinners and vacations and golf outings...or am I wrong to think that some palms got greased...I hate to think that way but I was born and raised in Chicago and Cook co. all my life and I know that's how things get done there. "It's not what you know, It's who you know" I'm throwing my 2bits in a little late here, but is there nothing more that can be done to stop this place from being built?
  12. There are river maps put out by IDNR, I believe, that break the rivers down by the mile. One mile of river for each sponsor/group sounds like a good idea. Of course we won't stop anyone from sponsoring ten miles of river, either. **I'll take the stretch of the Fox river from the Carpentersville dam down to Rt.72.** That's about a mile's worth of river. If it turns out to be two miles, then I'll take two. I would like to sponsor my part of the river on behalf of my family. Send me a package as soon as they come in, Mike. I'll get to it right away. I've got an idea about finding potential sponsors. I was going to send this in a PM, but I'd like everyone else to chime in, too. I'm going to contact the Northern Kane Co. Chamber of Commerce and comprise a list of businesses and organizations. I think getting local townships involved will be a big help. Getting kids into it is another important thing. Maybe talking to schools and suggesting a rewards/field trip program where the kids who participate would get a day off school for a clean-up/fishing day and some extra credit. I've heard that there is a small group of ISA members who do most of the work on the conservation side. And I know there are others who would like to help, but honestly don't have the time. Believe me, I know it's hard to fit in everything we want to do into our lives. The most important things take top priority. I can only give a small amount of my time to this effort. Somthing is better than nothing. So if you have an idea that you think might be helpful, share it. Or if you know someone with connections. Let us know. That alone is a great help. In the very near future, I'll be working to get people to contribute to and participate in the Adopt-A-Stream program. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. Some of you may be able to help me get my foot in the door. You may know someone and be in a position to put in a good word. Think your church might want to help? YMCA's, Boys Clubs, Cub Scouts, Fraternal orders etc. Mike you got the gears turning in my head, now. I like what Norm said: "The best gift you can give to the river gods is your time as when you stop to think about it, that is the most precious commodity in the world."
  13. Ken, You got these things at G.A.T.?
  14. Ditto! We should invite those guys out and teach them how to fish. Obviously they don't. Mike, it seems like you do a heck of a lot of work. It is greatly appreciated. I haven't forgotten about your offer.
  15. Norm, you make it sound so easy...Like how Jimmy Page makes playing the guitar look easy. Thanks for the tips. It's like a mini-smallie school when reading these posts of yours. JS
