Ryan Kral
Hey guys. I don't know about you guys, but my go to pattern almost all season long is this simple beetle. Peacock body, black and pink razor foam, legs of choice, and some ep fibers just to help see this fly. It produces from March opener through the entire season. I usually fish this as a tandem rig, with some kind of basic bead head nymph below. Its also my favorite fly to use on the local bluegill pond. Does anybody have different beetle patterns they fall back on? Just curious, Ryan
Mike Flyrodder Miller
I use a similar pattern but with an irridescent green back, smaller round rubber legs (more lively), and instead of just peacock for the body I add an additional herl of black ostrich which has more action even when at rest. I use bright orange for the indicator. I've been using that pattern for well over 10 years.
Rob G
Ryan, nice looking beetles. What size hook did you tie those on and are you talking the mainstay of your trout season or another fish?

Ryan Kral
I tied these on a #14 dry fly hook, and yes, I was talking about using them for Trout. Thanks, Ryan
