it really depends on the situation, on small streams you might need to take turns giving each other the first shots at the "new water". Sometimes you split it in half and cover different banks on small to medium sized rivers and streams. I think the best way is to stay close(spinning gear, fly gear you have to increase your distance apart) and throw different stuff to figure out what's working.

Steve,
I have a Dyna-King Jr. Trekker that I'd lend to you for a couple weeks if you want to see how it is.

I like Owner Stinger hooks. If the splits are corroding than I'd replace those as well.

Hi Greg,
I'm a new member of ISA and am looking into the idea of purchasing a kayak for fishing purposes. Sorry I don't have any interest or need for your roof rack system.
Was sort of excited to see that you acquired the Native kayak, which is the one I seem to prefer over other models/brands. Would like to ask a couple of questions about using a kayak for fishing purposes. Some background...
My idea of getting/using a kayak is to avoid having to shuttle my car to a take out point downstream. Am wondering if its practical to consider paddling upstream on a river and then fishing back to the launch site? Probably would fish from the kayak however I think my preference would be to use it as transportation and then get out and wade selected areas. Is this idea practical? Do you wear waders when fishing from the kayak? I would probably wear the waders. Thanks for your help, Dick Dragiewicz
Hi Dick,
I have a Native MantaRay 12 which is the sit on top 12'. I haven't tried the moving water yet but if you'd like to give it a try on some still water this spring let me know and we can hook up at the Skokie Lagoons. I wear waders in the yak when the water is cold and would most likely wear them for river fishing because I think I'd use it more of a spot to transportation vehicle than some to fish from on moving water.
BTW, I'm the guy whose fishing license you found and returned from the Big Green about 6 years ago.

4" Senko, that's been magically made indestructable without affecting it's action

I don't know anything about them but at $41.70(usually $139) for the Trinity waders they will make a good set of backups/loaners.

I'd say either a Shimano Crucial or a Daiwa Light and Tough

R.I.P.
I regret that I missed the seminar he gave a few years back in Chicago.

best wishes for a speedy recovery Jonn.
They say it's like a first date...we're still talking about fishing right?

great looking fly, I really like the hackle wing, sort of like the saltwater flatwing flies. I'll better it gets better as it gets more spare like the Clouser's seem to.

Mad Toms in the Dupe!!
Cool!

Michael,
We need to go drift some flukes and senkos soon.
Yeah, the darkside indeed. I built a crankbait rod and now have a (*gasp) 7'6" telescoping flipping stick build in the works!
-
nicely done Michael!
Sounds like you created an artificial fluke hatch!

The Shimano Crucial line is the best bang for the buck and have a great warranty as well. I don't know your budget but you may want to give the Kistler Magnesium TS a look. The G. Loomis IMX and GLX are amazing rods...just amazing but brutally expensive. I can't recommend the GL2 or GL3, I have 1 GL3 and really don't like it much.

lunch at Chipotle doesn't count as an aerator

Cheer Gary!
Had my best day ever last week 143 fish , 8 species.damn! Nice!

Nice smallie!!!

wow, sounds like you need an emerger pattern, sparkle dun perhaps. Of course that's if you happen to be fly fishing, otherwise I would imagine that there are various fish feeding on the mayflies so maybe a weightless fluke to try for the larger fish capitalizing on the opportunity. If you happened to have a couple flies with you and could tie on a dropper off a topwater bait maybe you could get a fly drifting by with spinning gear but that's a lot of work so either the fluke or a chugger to cause a little surface disturbance to trigger a competitive bite.
so whad'ya do?

His hair jigs don't discriminate either.
whoa, was that out of a kayak? sleigh-ride?
Jonn,
I want to buy some.
