  1. I Know this is going to cause me trouble, but ... After ice fishing Deep quarry over the weekend, I realized something very sad. We the urban angler, are going to spread these zebra mussels. Everywhere.:( think about this.... how many of us, have (in the last several years) Be Honest! jumped into the dupage went wading up or down to a spot or 2. Jumped out of the water, into our car and off to the next spot? Whether it was again in the dupage or ....Another river. Think back in the summer we had a thread about jumping from spot to spot, etiquette on taking off the waders or not. What are we gonna do now? I will leave it here, so as not to cause to much trouble for myself..... too late!!! But I ask you WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ? can we clean our waders enough?

What about jumping from river to river? I know I've done it. Should we all have two or three sets of boots and waders and change between rivers if that's how you plan to fish? What irritates me is that they are going to set up zebra mussel monitoring stations in the west branch. While I don't know the topography why can't they just cut the lake off from the river? I know some things are easier said than done but come on already. We know how much it costs to fix something once it is wrecked. Why not fix it before and save some money... How about about we close that big canal before LM is wrecked...

"non natives" have and always will be spread. the problem now is that it happens a lot faster...

    Okay off the box.

  2. Anyone interested in a circa late 1980’s Coleman liquid fuel lantern and a can of liquid fuel? The lantern itself does not work. It did work when I replaced the generator (piece that brings the fuel up from the reservoir) but I believe the generator got clogged again due to the reservoir starting to rust inside. Otherwise the lantern and case are in great shape and would make for good spare parts or I’m sure the lantern could be fixed with a new generator and reservoir. I just don’t feel like dealing… $20

  3. Comfort... hmmm I don't believe in it. It interfers with fishing activities.:lol::P;)

Adjust foot pegs, throw legs up on the hood, lean back, etc... just change your position from time to time, or get out and wade if you feel tired in any area.

The best modification I have done is to add a large foam block under the knees to rest hamstrings on. It really seems to help keep legs from falling asleep. Holding your legs in any position unsupported will tire them out.

I am a strong believer in Yoga/stretching before and after fishing.

You mean they don't have a lazy boy yak yet :lol:;)

That's all good advice! I've put off getting some sort of water craft for a few reasons but one of them was "comfort". Dick's has their annual something or other around Memorial Day. They have all the yaks out and a pool you can test them in. I stopped several years ago and could barely get in to some kayaks I guess due to my giraffe like legs. Last time I was in a canoe I didn't think I was going to be able to walk the next day

Not to get too far off the subject but stretching or something will become part of my routine this year along with making sure I have a good electrolyte balance. A couple years ago I woke up in the middle of the night after wading with both hamstrings cramping. That was extremely painful and probably quite comical with me crawling and writhing on the floor in pain. It was freaking my wife out for a minute

  4. This is not true . I fish out of a 9'4" Mainstream streak. At 6'2" 215, it more than handles me and my gear.

How comfortable are you in your yak? Also being 6'2" and having tighter hamstrings and lower back I need to be able to move around a bit/change positions (as much as I could in a yak).

  5. The interest this topic has generated has gotten us to think that some sort of paddle and compare outing might be in order for this summer. An outing where members could bring their boats to show and try others they are interested in trying.

    Excellent idea!!

  6. Ethanol isn't too green nor are a lot of other "green" touted items...

Not to take anything from this post as it highlights a symptom of a world wide problem but was there ever a definitive answer from the powers that be that the ethanol spill was the cause of the fish kill? I know we debated a lot about this but I still find it hard to believe that a spill in a creek that led to another river that led to the Rock didn't affect the creek or the Kish but affected the Rock 30-50 miles downstream (or whatever the distance is). Not trying to argue or downplay just looking for some facts. No matter what the Railway company should pay for something/be fined just for being morons and ignoring a couple of calls that the tracks were compromised.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... remember The Lorax!!! It should be required reading.

  7. I'm trying to figure out where to fish the rest of this month.I know the rules about staying clear of

the duck blinds but when does the season start and end in this zone?

You can probably find the zone stuff online at the dnr site.

On another note, what exactly are the rules? I believe there was some controversy late last year or earlier this year as two site specific regulations regarding fishing and waterfowling seemed to contridict each other. I know there was a lot of discussion here and other places but I don't recall seeing any closure to the issue.

I'd like to know what the deal is as I may be able to make it down once or twice in the next month and don't want to offend any hunters. I know there is a yardage distance (what is it?) to keep clear of the blinds, I believe the waterfowlers need to have a spread of decoys out but that's all I know. I know I can find some of this in the 2009 Regs but there is still the contridiction issue.

  8. I stopped very briefly late Monday where I did okay in the spring out by your area and while I didn't take a temp I'd have to say high 40's / low 50's. This is only based on touching the lure to get off leaves/grass. That's not very scientific but it wasn't warm water and it wasn't super cold either. Clear, low and cool were my observations.

  9. Brownie/Cutthroat Gal based on her overall balancing ability of everything ;) Storm guy is a close second. Even though it was probably staged it looks like he went through the proverbial gauntlet to get that fish.

  10. PHEW! Thanks for the update! I was getting pretty upset and working myself up. I'm glad to be a part of the ISA... with so many members there's enough people here to know or find the answers.

Jim B you may want to stay at a low simmer... Unless someone heard anything different the company that was cleaning up filed for bankruptcy and the clean-up is on hold until that is sorted out which means the dam removal is on hold.
