  1. Our annual POT LUCK PICNIC is BACK and will take place on July 29th this year. As before it will be held at the picnic shelter in the Glenwood Forest Preserve along the Fox river in Batavia IL. Socializing starts at 12:00 pm am with lunch being ready at approximately 1:00 pm. As in the past we will provide the condiments, dogs, and burgers and soda everyone is encouraged to bring a dish to share. Come early or stay late and do a little fishing in the Fox river!

  2. It's that time of year. The green/red shiny 3 leaved plants are poison ivy and this is what it looks like in the spring. Also poison ivy is an edge plant meaning it usually grows in that transition zone where trail changes to field/forest or river changes from water to land. This is on the edge of a riverbank. PI also grow as a vine with ginormous leaves. Google if you want more info.

    HI Bart,

Does the ISA participate in any other river/stream cleanups?  I'd love to attend this but my youngest son graduates from H.S. that day so I won't make this one.

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Matt,

We (the ISA) have participate in different clean ups on different rivers over the years. Most of out participation has been in conjunction with the county or a group.

When I first joined the club we did some clean ups on our own. I'd like to get back to some of those types of events next year.. While it's GREAT that county(s) and and cities sponsor these types of events they come too late in the season. There is already a lot of plant growth which hides a lot of the trash. Also poison ivy along with other 'nuisance' plants are well established.

If you have areas in mind that need cleaning start a list.

at the blowout jim crowley talked about using the x rap with a feathered hook. and   the ripstop, what was the other one?  said it stops then rolls on its side.

Shadow rap. It's designed to sink. Idk if it fades like he described but but it'll catch

  5. So many thoughts....which lead to more thoughts. It's like a merry go round minus some of the merry..

Anyway,  talked with a young man (mid 20's?) yesterday. He fished as a kid and is starting to get back into fishing. I let him know about the club, he looked us up and noted we had a facebook page. I talked us up a little but didn't want to com on too strong or anything like that.

Talked with a former ISA member yesterday and he mentioned mentioning the club to a younger man he ran into on the water.

Got an invite to the fishing show last Saturday and was disappointed to not see our ISA BOOTH.

On another topic, I was trying to get some information on the Tinkers Dam web site  and it appears

to be shut down. On one google search it said Permanently closed.

Can't speak to the fishing show as I forgot what and why we decided not to have a booth.

The cabin changed hands last year. Not entirely sure what the new owners are doing with it..

In the mornings, with breakfast and coffee I scan  through the 5 Chicago TV stations. This morning I caught 32 weather. Mike Caplin always shows pictures that viewers send him. Today he showed 2 pictures.of the Vermillion River. The first picture was just of the River, trees, rocks and water. The second picture was of the guy holding a smallmouth.  In this picture you could tell exactly where on the Vermillion he was fishing. If he was member he would know: No Locations!

You have a clip of that? Looking for new spots to fish. Hahaha

I've been told I'm guilty of this.  I'm technologically challenged but what do you do on your phone to prevent this if you want to take fish photos but not give up location?  Place phone in airplane mode before fishing?

Bart with iPhone you can just pull the image of you and the fish or just the fish depending on how you took the picture. Open a photo and lightly tap/touch the photo. You'll know you tapped correctly as a copy/share option will appear on the screen and a outline will travel around only the image, no background.

Alternately you can send me your pics and I'll post for you 😉🤣

Are there any pictures posted on our ISA forums that give away the location metadata?

I don't know this for sure but I don't think the GPS coordinates transfer when you upload a photo.

If you take a screenshot of a paused video there is no location info even if you had your location turned on. when taking the video.

With the new OS on iPhone there is a photo option that allows you to copy only the outlined of fish and/or fish and yourself. Pretty sure no GPS info on that.

Finally, spots..... unless we're talking remote  mountain streams I don't think there are many 'secret' spots. Agree with the comments of Paul, John, and Joe.

I can second this: I have a pair of the neoprene bootfoot tidewe and they have held up and are very warm.

Okay you're the third person I know who has this brand. I think I need to get a pair. Also my breathables and layering don't always cut it in the colder water.

Did you find you had to upsize on shoe size as Eric pointed out some reviewers had to do? I guess I could also order two sizes and send one back.
