  1. Years ago I stood on the bank at a local reservoir side pond and watched a big 'ol green bass take a bird off a laydown tree in the water!

One minute it was there, then "poof!", it was gone in one giant splash....

Funny thing was, the next day I managed to catch a 7lb. Largemouth from the same small pond!

Not sure if there was a bird in its belly, but it hacked up a few tadpoles...LOL

  2. I don't think dates and times mean nearly as much as location.

We have members from all across the state, but the NW and Central folks pretty much have a handle as it is more localized for them.

The Chicagoland region covers like a million square miles (no, I didn't actually do the math).

You can have guys in St. Charles that are not about to drive out to Joliet, and visa versa.

I do like what Don is doing with it this season and look forward to seeing how it works out.

  3. I usually fish alone (ya think?)...other than with my kids, so photos are hard to come by.

Can smiles be substituted for smallies? = )

These are a few that stick with me as being very special:

...and of course, a fishin' derby always elicits smiles:

No fair critiquing the photographic quality (or lack of) in mine either.....LOL

  4. Crap- I almost forgot about the "CB Lures" I and others have been using.

I believe the guy who pours them is a friend of Rich?

He makes a killer Power Leech copy (which are no longer produced by Berkley).

Also some fantastic Sweet Beaver imitations.

Not sure if he ever did get his website up yet.

  5. Welcome to the ISA John.

Look forward to seeing you at some of the many, many functions we offer throughout the year.

Pay special attention to the Calendar link in the top right corner of the forums to see what you may be interested in attending in any given week.

  6. The press release.....

    Rapala adds spinners to line

MINNETONKA, Minn. -- Rapala has signed a purchase agreement to acquire Terminator Fishing Lures, a Tulsa, Okla.-based manufacturer of fishing lures and accessories.

Rapala plans to integrate Terminator into the Rapala family of brands by springtime.

Terminator, founded in 1996, is viewed by many anglers as the pioneer of the titanium revolution. The line features a wide range of spinnerbaits and jigs, including the T-1 and T-2 series spinnerbaits, Watts Brothers spinnerbaits and Pro's Top Secret Jig.

"Terminator is a great fit for the Rapala family of brands," said Tom Mackin, president of Rapala in the U.S. "Their products fill a niche that we don't currently offer, and they have an excellent reputation with anglers. Given Terminator's strong market presence and long-standing relationships with customers, our goal is to stay the course and build on their successes."

  7. Way to go Joseph.......

Great article by Bob Maciulis, on a great cause.

Fly-fishing groups boost patients on path to recovery

    January 2, 2007

Rivers are a common metaphor for life, a powerful, vibrant symbol of hope.

Throughout the year, Joseph Meyers can be found along the Fox River, teaching fly fishing. His One More Cast fly fishing pro shop in nearby Countryside is the hub for a growing fraternity of fly fishers, many of whom target smallmouth bass on the Fox as well panfish on the myriad retention ponds, subdivision lakes and Forest Preserve District waters.

Many fly fishers also tie their own flies and build their own rods, and Joseph is also one of the premier fly tiers in the Midwest. Meyers also hosts expeditions to some of the finest, most exotic places to fish. Brown trout in Chile. Brook trout north of the Great Lakes. Rainbows and browns on legendary rivers of the upper Midwest.

So, when Cathy Sero called him a few years ago, asking if he would be interested in teaching a small group of anglers she was taking to a lodge in northern Michigan, Joseph's semi-serious reply asking if she knew what he was paid for seminars should have shocked her.

"I know what you charge," Sero quietly answered. "And I know you're worth every penny. That's why I called you. I want the best for my group.

"Of course, I won't pay you and you'll have to pay your own way up to the lodge, as well as pay your own room and board."

Several years later, Meyers considers working with Cathy Sero's groups among his most treasured experiences in fishing.

  8. Thanks guys.

Actually, we're exceptionally lucky to have each and every officer and members that go the extra mile to help preserve or restore a little habitat for our kids and beyond.

Our rivers and streams are much too important to take for granted, as they serve as the lifeblood of this nation.

I can't stress enough the impact each and every individual can make with a small sacrifice here and there....and working as a team, the sky's truly the limit.
