  1. Other than bringing in a little revenue registration would nothing to discourage teens form their pool toys. A cupl years ago I tried to get Will Cty to lift the stillwater ban on legitimate fishing inflatables to no avail. I pointed that they were actually safer than canoes or kayaks subject to tipping and that in the western states they were as common as jon boats are here. I also argued that in waters managed by the state ie Mazonia etc. fishing inflatables have always been allowed w/o incident.I'm sure the cty held to its stillwater ban out of liability concerns posed by the much less "seaworthy" pooltoys which makes no sense since requiring a moving current their use is pointless on stillwater.Trying to get bureaucrats to move is like trying to push big blocks of concrete up a hill.

  2. I'm afraid there's not much that can be done until the 2018 elections when hopefully we can begin throwing the members of this travesty of an administration out. If it was ever true it certainly is no longer that there's no difference between Democrats and republicans now that the latter feel they have the political muscle to finally show their true colors. If in the future elections the American public stands still for what 's been happening than they (we) deserve what is gotten.

  3. Now THAT is a comprehensive explanation.

Hopefully, the reversal doesn't last long.

We may not agree about THE END but we do here. It's very simple ie if it was enacted to benefit the environment this administration wants it struck down because it's all about the BOTTOM LINE baby!

Thanks for that descending video.I enjoyed watching it come in for a landing.Sorry :D

  4. i am no longer an officer since last fall.. it is just my opinion from hearing horror stories about farmers being fined for bs reasons

partly it could be a way to run small farmers out of business to be grabbed by BIG business. tu only shows what they can bandstand on.

    [/quote

That cheap shot at an important environmental organization wasn't worthy of you Rich. As for farmers they're noted for complaining about their lot and for not seeing past their fence lines. For example it's disturbing to learn that all the sand problems in the Kankakee R basin was caused by farmers' either working their land or creating access roads right next to the river banks whereas leaving just a small strip of it along the banks untouched would've prevented the problem for all these year.I don't think that they didn't know but that they didn't(and don't) care.

For the reasons i stated above I think concerns about the trout stocking are misplaced. I agree about the poaching problem.A game warden stationed at or at least often frequenting the Wilmington dam would eliminate much of the poaching that goes on there.

  6. Steve

As far as I know Rock is a freestone river not a spring creek. In summer it gets very low and too warm for trout.

    Norm

Even if a few trout survive the gauntlet into June they're not being targeted by trouters as when their #s warranted but by fishermen in general either out to catch whatever they can or more likely out after SMALLMOUTH

Finally, all you guys who cry "invasive species"

Here are some examples of invasive species;rainbows and or brown trout introduced into cutthroat or brook trout streams--lake trout into Yellowstone Lake -all carp species into N.A. and yes smallies into trout streams.

All invasive species must have one thing in common in order to join the club:they must be able to establish themselves in the native species environment. At worst trout stocking where fishermen or no they can't survive creates a here today/ gone tomorrow having little or no impact on the natives. It could even be that some big ole 18- 20" K3 smallies that enter Rock C in spring during high water got that big in part by dining on those naive stockers come April. The DNR's walleye stocking program is much more detrimental to K3 's bass.In any event with the sad state of affairs in our government for among other things the environment there are far better causes for us to embrace. National environmental organizations such as The Sierra Club, The Nature Conservancy etc need our support now more than ever.

  7. That makes sense.

The fact remains though that the IDNR encourages people to stomp all over the beds and fish for anything that swims by adding the trout to the creek. An invasive species. Brilliant.

There is no logical explanation as to why this continues to take place every Spring.

I don't have any experience with creeks like Rock for example. Does the state do multiple creek stockings which would be in contrast to the one time lake stockings? If not i doubt the trout stocking would have a significant impact on the smb spawn since it takes place around April 1st over a month to almost two depending on weather conditions before bass get ready to spawn.By than the trout are almost all gone and trout fishing over for the most part; so it's not so much the trout specific fishermen but the smallie fishermen that are on the creeks during the spawn.

  8. Probably the only answer regrettably is to have a closed season. It would make it easier not to fish for 6 weeks or so knowing you didn't have a choice. Even bluegills can be affected. I know of several lakes that had healthy populations of big 'gills that I don't bother with anymore.

  9. really? do you think that a rod company is obligated to replace an accidentally broken rod? Sounds to me like they went above and beyond by replacing it for a nominal fee.

If they advertise that they'll replace a broken rod (most cos. do these days) than they are in fact obligated. In my case Echo had no obligation to replace a lost rod but did so anyway. So yea really.

  10. i broke my 7wt streamlight rod that i won at the 2nd isa fly show tip got crunched in a door mishap. i sent it in last week they called today, i paid the $10 fee and its on the way back home great service rich mc

    Rich

What Bean did is only what they were obligated to do. I question whether they'd offer to go beyond their obligation by replacing a rod that wasn't broken but simply lost the way Rajeff did for me with my Echo rod.Trully Great service.

  11. On the Belize trip the guide broke my 10' Echo3 flyrod trying to put it in a 9' rod holder on his boat. After returning I sent it to Rajeff Sports for repair via USPS to save a few $ instead of UPS or FEDX.The rod was lost in transit apparently because the address label they attached came off. After all this time it became obvious that the search request I'd initiated was pointless and that my only recourse was to file a claim for the lousy $50 USPS would be liable for

against the $350 rod,400 with tax/shipping.For the hell of it I called Rajeff yesterday on the remotest of chance that the rod had actually been delivered to them per my search instructions to USPS w/o instructing them who it was from.Knowing what the answer would be I wouldn't've even made the call to Vancouver Wa. if long distance charges had applied. After listening to my tale of woe and taking down my name etc the warranty guy put me on hold.To my astonishment he came back to say that for the $35 warranty charge they'd send me a new rod!!!

I would take it as a personal favor if any of you ISA flyguys planning to get a new rod would consider the Rajeff offerings and letting other flyguys you know of my experience.

  12. I think this discussion has shown admirable restraint in not naming names. On the other hand if you want to engage our politicians you need to know those that wish to do the most harm. If you want to write these people here is a good start. http://www.ecowatch.com/privatize-public-lands-2317119748.html

    [/quote

As I see it the privatization of our public lands is the biggest environmental threat we face.If we don't like what the Republicans now in power are doing we have the opportunity to eventually throw the bums out and hopefully undo the harm they wrought. But once lost public lands are lost forever. An example of this is happening right now in Belize where Leonardo DiCaprio has purchased one of the biggest islands in the Caribbean with apparent plans to turn it into a mini Las Vegas much to the concern of most of the local population.

  13. I was wondering if anyone has been using a Piscifun fly reel for a few seasons, and what your thoughts are on them.

    The sword in particular.

Ron, has yours held up well?

I have the Blaze model and yes it's doing fine. While probably not for heavy duty freshwater species steelhead coho salmon etc it will otherwise be a good freshwater reel.Give one a try.
