  1. While the U.S. has been enduring one of the coldest winters with no relief in sight I came across on Accuweather a town in Switzerland of all places that 's had well above average temps all winter mostly in the 30's and 40'sand even some 50's..Could mean that Europe's been warmer than normal.

We are looking for a few members to man the ISA booth at the Chicagoland Fishing, Travel and Outdoor Expo in Schaumburg, January 25-28, 2018. The purpose of the booth is to inform show goers of the ISA, connect with current and former members, and sell new memberships. I'd like to have 2 members in the booth at all times. Parking is already free and booth workers will get in for free as long as they sign up for a 4 hour minimum shift. Aside from the normal show hours, we also need to set up the booth on Wednesday.  I will update the schedule below as we get volunteers.

Gorgeous. So much technique in putting this together. Some things unexpected such as the smokes and the Shakespeare trucker hat.

The story is somewhat ironic ... a solo escape from "duty" and an immersion into nature, but obviously filmed by a second person and dozens of very planned shots. But if you can get past that and take it for what's on the surface (that's a pun for you fly fishers), super enjoyable!

We are so spoiled by the gems on YouTube. Thanks for sharing Tom.

As much as you always enjoy these ffing videos if you ever take it up you'd enjoy actually ffing  much much more.

Speaking of you tube videos anyone who'd like to witness Gale Sayers' literally otherworldly running ability should google him up on you tube.No one before or since can compare:nor will there ever be.In his rookie season playing in only 8 or 9 games of what was than only a 12 game season he set records  as both a back and punt / kickoff returner that few have reached in  16 game seasons. You'll see how he could not only evade tacklers but  with his uncanny moves leave them eating dirt in his wake. Enjoy!

I spend a week up there every year.  Why can we not leave good enough alone!

I decided on ffing up in the Boundary Waters in the 60's after witnessing a friend of my father catch walleyes and bass with a white bassbug during a white fly hatch.

These days at least whenever any politician comes out in favor of trashing the environment for a quick buck you can always count on there being an (R) behind his name

After reading your post I used e instead of google for the ISA site which presented the text in normal size. I'll go to G's settings to see if I can correct the problem. If not I'll use e for ISAing. Thanks for the help

You didn't say what you do with the fish while your setting up the tripod etc for the selfie. It's been so long since I caught any pic worthy that I almost forgot;but I seem to recall that I would simply leave it in the water attached to my rod on an appropriate length of line. They quickly relax once they're no longer being pulled against. I usually take a hand shot first in case the fish gets away during set up which is more possible if you go barbless

  7. Still having the problem?

Yes and it's not just when posting as Kevin suggested but whenever I go on this site and it only happens on this site. I noticed when I tried to post a new topic that the font size was a too large 24. When I selected 12 instead nothing changed. Btw I just clicked on your conservation director post As expected the size was too large.Yet when I clicked on the fish pic instruction link the text was the correct smaller size.

  8. Eric brings up a great point.

Given the fact that we reside in a primarily urban environment where 4.1% of the land statewide is publicly owned, private enterprise is going to develop among their privately owned parcels.

Barring any real efforts towards green infrastructure, there isn't a whole lot of concern by developers for how their projects are going to affect the fishing, let alone clean drinking water and naturally pleasing aesthetics in a riverine environment.

I don't need to tell the original poster that the days of "The Fox" running around plugging drain pipes is a thing of the past.

A concerted effort among community and private interests to see that the economic development is done in a less invasive manner might be the only "best practices" approach available to us.

I hate to think what our Forest Preserve lands would now be like today if developers had been able to get their avaricious hands on them.

  9. Having recently gotten an Orvis Helios2 9wt for my next permit trip I decided, the wind being negligible, to compare it today for distance casting against my 25 yr old Powell LGA 8wt. Both rods casted one of Jonn Gs big blockhead poppers using Airflos's 40+ flyline. I stood a cupl' above the water of the pond I chose for the test. While both rods were capable of 90+' casts the Orvis did so with less effort and more consistency. Both rods consistently managed 85-87'.Had the rods been identical line weights the results would have been a virtual wash. With an easier casting fly or an empty leader both rods can cast well into the backing of a 90' flyline. The Orvis was stiffer the Powell more limber and lively. While it was a fast action in its day the old P felt more like one of today's moderate action rods. I've always believed that before the family owned company "went south" in the late 90s Powell made the world's best flyrods. This test confirmed that for me today.
