    caceivictoryphoto%20with%20border.jpgCanton-area residents are still celebrating after winning an eight-year battle to halt the proposed North Canton coal strip mine – successfully protecting Fulton County communities and their right to clean water.

    The proposed strip mine would have degraded a 1,000 acre landscape while polluting Canton Lake, endangering the drinking water supply for more than 20,000 local residents.

    That this ill-conceived mine was seriously considered for so long calls into question the validity of the Illinois mining permit process. Especially when the owners of this proposed mine had violated the Clean Water Act more than 600 times at their Industry Mine.

  9. I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS

    Was pulling in to my subdivision today which is right on the DuPage. As I drive up I spot a big bird that looks like an eagle. Sure enough it's a fully mature eagle and my wife spots one on the branch next to it.

     

    Two fully mature bald eagles a few blocks from me.

     

    I know I've heard some guys mention it (course I never believe that stuff anyway) but wow, seeing those that close to home was just really cool. I should have pulled over and tried to get a shot.

    Just to be fair... even though Jonn and I have been throwing and advocating for years, my buddy Randy Dunlap first discovered them and wrote a product reveiw in the ISA magazine on them in 2006 That's how long we've been throwing them.

     

    Here's the review he wrote 8 years ago.

    Vision Lures Honey Buzz

    Buzz baits are a favorite of many of our most successful ISA members. River smallmouth bass can be suckers for buzz baits in the warm water periods. As you can probably tell from my reviews, my favorite way to catch smallmouth bass is on the surface.

    In my quest to find the “perfect” buzzbait for river smallmouth bass, I have come across a very unique buzz bait. It is made by Vision Lures of Republic, Missouri and is called the HoneyBuzz. The HoneyBuzz is a crawler style buzz bait with a double wing metal buzzer. The metal buzzer comes either painted or unpainted. The painted version is powder coated for durability. The brass weight of the lure is molded onto the premium Mustad Ultra Point hook that is part of the lure. The weighted hook combined with the hinge in the middle of the lure permits the skirt of the lure to hang at an angle in the water to increase hooksets. Most of us who have fished with buzz baits know that hooking percentages can be somewhat low on this family of lures. I have found that this angled hook has definitely increased my hooking percentage on a buzz bait. The hinged body of the bait is also designed to make the lure harder for fish to throw. Another unique feature of this bait is the “Squeaky Ol’ Rusty Rivet” which is designed to increase the sound that the lure produces. This bait also has a blade guard in front of the blade to help keep weeds from fouling the bait. The HoneyBuzz is made with very heavy gauge stainless steel wire to prevent bending. It is available in 4 sizes from 1/8 ounce to 1/2 ounce and 13 color combinations.

    I have had great success with these baits. They crawl over cover well. They draw fish from a distance. Hooksets are effortless with the premium hooks on these baits. I took a beautiful 17 inch bass from the West Branch of the DuPage on this lure in August. I also put up some nice numbers of bass on a couple of outings on the Fox River using only these baits.

    Hello,
    My name is Mike Conlin and I am the former Illinois DNR Fisheries Chief (1971-2009). I have started an online petition to "Stop The Proposed Project Endangering Emiquon Preserve". Emiquon is a restored backwater area (6000 acres) along the Illinois River just north of Havana, Illinois. It was levied off for farming in the 1920's. Restoration began in 2007 and the area is now a fantastic area full of lush aquatic vegetation, has a top notch fishery, and a thriving wildlife population. However, The Nature Conservancy and the Army Corps of Engineers have plans to reconnect this area to the Illinois River. If that happens, the Illinois will only bring death (heavy silt load, common carp, grass carp, silver carp, bighead carp) to Emiquon! I would appreciate your signing the petition and urging your friends and club members to do the same.     "He told me that a gentleman only uses feathers to catch fish."

     

    This comment makes him the snobby tool he is. He is saying "if you don't fish my way you're not a _______"

     

    No one cares if he only wants to fish with whatever or catch whatever.

     

    His comment says "whoever isn't fishing my way isn't a gentleman"

     

    If that's not a snobby tool? I think the defense mechanism of some fly fishermen gets going really fast.

     

    No one gives a crap except the guys who think their way is always the best.

     

    Give it up already.

     

    Norm was letting him go by to the next spot and fish and he could have just said thanks and fished how he wanted to, but instead he's got to give Norm a little lecture on the gentlemanly way to fish.
