  1. Orvis has committed $1.1 million dollars to bring new fly anglers to the sport. Kids, adults, women...doesn't matter to us, we've been teaching this sport for over 150 years. Wanna help with our Fly Fishing 101 classes? I could use a few bodies to help teach casting and a few knots in a fun setting, heck bring some ISA flyers and I'll pass those out, too. Proud to say that I am back at Orvis-Chicago after a 12 year absence. This is the location where I started my fly fishing retail career and happy to be back home. Hope to see some of you around...I am still excited about this sport and it's bright future. Give me a call if you can spare a couple of hours, sure would appreciate it. 2. Has anyone read this book? Imagine a planet with orange oceans, toxic seawater, and marine life that consists almost solely of jellyfish. This is the scenario that Mark Kurlansky, renowned author of the award-winning bestseller Cod, asks us to contemplate in World Without Fish. Lushly illustrated andwritten for young readers, World Without Fish compellingly explains how, without sustainable fishing and improved environmental practices, the future of fish and the health of oceans is bleak. World Without Fish is a clarion call to all ages about the importance of taking action to save the ocean's fish from extinction. Mark will be joining us at the Notebaert Nature Museum on May 7 from 11am-1pm to discuss the importance of marine conservation and what we do to make sure that we don't live in a World Without Fish. Special guests include representatives from the Shedd Aquarium who will lead us through an interactive activity to show how interconnected we are with all of the world's species, but most particularly the fish in our lakes, rivers and oceans. We will also be treated to a demonstration by Dirk Fucik of Dirk's Fish and Gourmet who'll treat us to a delicious dish made with sustainable seafood. The event is free and ongoing, so stop by at any time between 11am and 1pm on Saturday May 7 at the Notebaert Nature Musuem, located at 2430 North Canon Drive. Joseph
  3. Speyburn Scotch Tasting Event Thursday May 5 from 6-8PM - Join Us! Join us for a night of hors d'oeuvres, music and free scotch tasting with Speyburn Scotch. Shot on location around the US, Canada, The Bahamas, Guatemala, Mexico, and Taiwan by accomplished filmmaker RA Beattie, Off the Grid focuses on people, places and fish that are a little bit more out of the ordinary. 4. Not at Orvis. As a corporation, Orvis is committed to bringing 10,00 NEW fly anglers into the sport this year. Each of our 50 company owned stores (and some independent dealers) are hosting a series of clinics called Fly Fishing 101. These are 2 hour clinics designed to de-mystify this sport in a fun setting. My link Fly Fishing is expensive to get into? Really? We will offer our $200 Streamline outfit (4 piece rod, reel, backing, flyline, leader, a carrying case and a DVD) for $149 plus a 1 year membership to TU (a $35 value) to any student who takes FF101. Oh..take the 2 hour class and get a $25 coupon that you can apply to any $50 purchase. Don't even have to have a rod to take the class...I will supply all of them; can I make it any easier? If you take the FF101 class and decide that you want to get into this a bit deeper, there is FF210...we take the students fishing! How's this for marketing: It's FREE. Yep...all 50 stores, all 18 dates....FREE Orvis has committed $1.1 million dollars to bring new fly anglers to the sport.
