Mike Clifford
I'm asking that volunteers please arrive around 8 a.m. at Herrick Lake. http://www.dupageforest.com/preserve.aspx?id=4194 Anyone wishing to meet for breakfast beforehand at around 7 or so: IHOP 167 Danada Sq E, Wheaton, IL - (630) 690-2344 http://maps.google.com/maps?source=ig&...ge&resnum=1 Here is the extent of our involvement at this event.... A few Bassbuggers are requested for some fly tying (safety pins for the kids) and some casting on the lake where time permits. This will take place inside the Conservation Station Tent, presumably. We'll play that by ear during set-up. A "Fishing Clinic and Learning Center" will be set up in close proximity to the fishing where we will give some instruction on casting and fishing throughout the day. Registration is showing us that there will be many very young kids (around 5) that will benefit from this. Initially, we hadn't planned on doing any casting, but the demographics (age, experience) of registrants told us it would be wise to include something of this nature. Fishing. Helping the kids to land fish and re-rig when they break off. All rods are pre-rigged as they get them upon arrival. The event officially is scheduled to run from 10 - 2. Lunch and water will be provided for all volunteers, but feel free to bring some water of your own as well. 1,000 bottles goes quickly on a hot day. Any questions can be directed in this thread, via PM to myself, a phone call or email. Thanks again to all that have put aside this date to mentor the next generation of potential conservationists. We typically have around 20 participants at this event, and I'm so far seeing around 10 that have responded (some do just show up). If you are on the fence, please consider giving a few hours for the cause. Your efforts are not wasted. Mike Clifford
We've gotten a great response from many ISA volunteers for tomorrow's event! Thank you for your support of Sgt. Tommy's Kids, the ISA participation and the fishing day this Saturday. We're extremely excited for this year's event, and we're confident that it will be a great day outdoors for all of the children who are attending. The forecast is 73 and sunny! When and Where? We're asking volunteers to arrive at Herrick Lake in Wheaton at 8:00 AM this Saturday. Parking is expected to be limited due to forest preserve construction. If you are able, please walk from the parking lot at Wheaton Warrenville South High School. This lot is across Butterfield road (Rte 56) at the corner of Butterfield and Wiesbrook. Responsibilities Upon your arrival, you will be directed to your committee area to help set up for the arrival of the children. If you have a problem with your assignment, I would be happy to relocate you. There will likely be some shifting on Saturday, depending on the day's needs. Registration will start around 9:00, and the last event ends at 1:00. Lunch will be served to the children at 1:00, and after the children and their guardians have been served, you are welcome to eat as well. Some volunteers may be asked to help us distribute the food. See you in the morning!
