We are now accepting your applications for the 2008 Military Kids Fishing Day.

Herrick Lake on August 9th is the location and time.

The Sgt. Thomas M. Gilbert Foundation and the Illinois Smallmouth Alliance are providing the fishing, food and casting ENTIRELY FREE!

Just bring the kids, we are providing the rest.

If your family or friends have kids of Illinois military personnel, you won't want them to miss this special event.

Many kids have mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, etc...currently serving this country.

Our goal is to introduce these kids to fishing, in the hopes they continue to enjoy the sport for many years to come. Our future fisheries managers, biologists and politicians are among these kids, so it is important that we afford them the opportunity to realize the beauty of our sport and the great outdoors up close and personal, before they get so immersed in video games and air conditioning that these activities don't matter to them.

We are anticipating the cut-off at 250 kids this year.

Sign Up Here!

If you need more enticement to bring these kids out, feel free to browse some photos and a video from last year's event below.

Once again, every child will be provided with a rod/reel/tackle and bait.

All of this goes home with them at the end of the day, in the hopes they will continue to enjoy the sport long after this day.

Many of the same sponsors will be joining us this year.

Fishing, Casting, Crafts and Games, Lunch, Corn on the Cob....and some very special guests.

Last year we had the pleasure of former Chicago Bear Dennis McKinnon helping to put a smile on every kid's face.

The Chicago Wolves will once again provide T-Shirts for the little ones.

"9FM" Radio will be broadcasting live from the event all day.

Too many exciting things to mention here, with more in the planning stage.

Hope to see you there!

It was suggested over the weekend that as long as we are accepting kids of Military for a very special FREE fishing event, that while we have some spots open we should welcome Police and Fire families to help us celebrate as well.

What is it we are celebrating?

Those that lay their lives on the line every day for the security of the rest of us, while also promoting fishing and the outdoors to various usergroups and future stewards of our natural resources.

If you or anyone you know has Military, Police or Firemen in the family....

Get those kids signed up before we close the application.
