John Loebach
I checked 3 areas in the Batavia pool today (plus Indian Trail Road in Aurora) with Bob Rung IDNR Stream Biologist & Joe Hernandez Superintendent of Parks Fox Valley Park District. Water is a little higher than I'd like to plant but the previous three years plants are doing well. We may split a few trays off with a few volunteers to test a new spot downstream while planting one more time at the VFW in Batavia. The FVPD staff is always helpful & motivated to manage their natural areas for native wild plants. If you look at Lippold park the results are evident in the areas where they have removed invasive brush by cutting or burning. We are fortunate to have them to help us shape this volunteer effort. We saw lots of minnows & fish in shallow water but the highlight was watching an eagle circle a shallow flat & dive down to catch a 10" fish & fly off. Just a few years ago they were winter visitors now they are living in our semi wild backyards. Nature is resilient. Planting in 3 weeks on 6/28 - don't miss out. John Loebach
With the risk of causing a deluge I think we should be good to plant on 7/19. I'll post details by Sunday if the dropping water & good forecasts hold.
